“Fashion may be frivolous and superficial and often cruel. (When she met Karl Lagerfeld, Ms. Ditto explained, he uttered a lot of “fat-phobic” remarks.)” - On the meeting between a new front row fixture and The Kaiser, in the Times.

It's one thing to be confident, it's another to be obese and unhealthy.

What's worse is that people are quick to jump on Beth Ditto for being obese and unhealthy but no one on this website would EVER SAY ANYTHING about or IMMEDIATELY POUNCE on how unhealthy people like Siri Tollerod and Lily Donaldson are - how they are equally as unhealthy as Beth Ditto, and horrible role models.
I know you people think that it's better to be too skinny than to be too fat, but they are both unhealthy.
It's not okay to acknowledge the health risks involved with obesity and ignore those associated with anorexia and bulimia.

Beth Ditto is a big girl in a skinny world, so it's sumb, but not surprising. It's kind of even more ridiculous coming specifically from Karl though because he was once a really big guy too! Plus Andre Leon at Vogue is totally a big fellow as well!

Ditto is massive. Not saying that it's ok to be anorexic either, but a lot more people are dying from overindulging (diabetes, heart disease, etc) than anorexia, and it's not ok to promote obesity as "curves" or "fat acceptance" when in fact I very much doubt that a doctor could pronounce her to be in good health. I will recant if she in fact healthy, but carrying an extra hundred pounds cannot be good for your body any more than weighing only 100 pounds like a model.
Plus, I am sure Karl just thinks "well I had the willpower to lose the weight, she obviously doesn't, so she's lazy or doesn't care". And he might be an asshole but I don't blame him for thinking that.

Yeah, I bet out of these two it is Beth Ditto that is unhealthy and not yo-yo-ing Lagerfeld and his crazy dietary habits. Is he still only eating horse-meat? After all he has been probably much longer fat than thin.
But honestly it's Karl Lagerfeld, he will say any crazy thing that goes through at the moment. At his collaboration with H&M he complained that the sizes went up to a (very tiny) 14, because he doesn't want fat people to wear his close. Put aren't there at least underhanded/unofficial Chanel plus-sizes for the very wealthy?

Where on earth does this "every celeb needs to be a good role model" notion come from? This line of thinking is pretty much just a repackaging of "won't someone think of the children" whine emitting from the archetypal prude.
Guess what health cops? It's not healthy to eat most processed foods (even if you stay thin), to smoke, to maintain a tan, to drink, etcetera. Mon dieu! Come to think of it, even leaving your house may lead to death by car accident or freak bird attack, so that might be unhealthy too.
Get over it, Beth is hot. Eat a carrot.
