“Scott, the Business” or “Scott Won’t Shoot Uggs”
By Natalie Hormilla Monday, Mar 16, 2009 / 10:08 AM
Last fall, we told you Scott got a book deal. And just now, the real details are starting to emerge:
The book’s coming out under Penguin, it’s call The Sartorialist, will sell out in days. More interesting: It’s getting its own pop-up shop in Colette – The Sartorialust – which will include racks of accessories (“great pyjamas, great suspenders”) to go alongside stacks of his tome.
Also possibly in the works: A certain shopping “deal” and a style guidebook a la Tim Gunn.
Is Scott the fashion world’s next mega-brand? We don’t know, but the best part of his profile in the Times UK this weekend? The fact that he wouldn’t shoot a girl’s outfit because she was wearing Uggs.
Discuss!
UPDATE: You may have noticed some changes in the above story – Scott’s assistant says that the only part of the Times story (in terms of business deals) that’s fairly certain is the pop-up store, which is slated to open up in Colette (other locatiosn are not definite quite yet). Who says newspapers have fact checkers?

Sartorialist and Garance Dore… are they or aren’t they? There have been so many rumours flying around about this recently, but that article gives thee impression he’s still married with kids..
Kudos to Scott for not shooting Uggs-wearing ladies. I’m always stunned to see normally chic or stylish people wearing them. There must be a way to keep your feet warm without wearing the shape-less, style-void boots as everyone else.
Thank god i HATE HATE HATE Ugg boots, girls where i am from where them with EVERYTHING (skirts, dresses, shorts, jesns, leggings, tights, pants, pyjamas, work uniforms, playsuits) and look like generic idiots. They actually think they are cool.
to guest1: unless this isn’t true; http://www.readmetro.com/show/en/NewYork/20090303/1/8/
Good for Scott! I’m happy not to be seeing any Uggs on The Sartorialist.
my hatred for uggs aside, Scott does make a point of shooting more classic sophisticated style – ugss don’t fall in that category
fair enough, but if her outfit was worth noticing couldn’t he just shoot her from the knees up? i mean, it’s still winter, and heels aren’t fun to walk all over a city in, maybe she just does a shoe change…
They’re just shoes.
Oh my god, someone is wearing Uggs. The world is over and now all things are in chaos.
Get over the whole Uggs crap.
While I’m not an Uggs fan myself, I agree with guest 7 & 8. They ARE really just shoes, albeit ugly ones. He could have just shot her calves-up, instead of taking a stupid stand on something that does’nt deserve so much attention in the first place!
Newspapers don’t have fact-checkers, in general (though I think magazines do). They have copy editors. Though less and less of them lately. And though copy editors do do a certain amount of fact-checking, like I said, smaller staff, so each person is having to cram more work in before deadline, leaving less time for in-depth fact-finding (which reporters and editors should be doing, by the way).
I don’t know why I felt compelled to mention that.
oh man this is hilarious because i take street style pictures in my city (for my blog: http://lecheapcestchic.com) and I won’t take anyone’s picture who’s wearing Uggs either. It’s just one of the rules I have. I have nothing against the boots, but when it comes to street style it’s not a look I care to document.
What about the scuttlebutt that The Sartorialist was supposed to sign with Rizzoli and instead went with Penguin? I heard he was playing publishers against each other to get the best deal, and in the process may have messed up his chances for broader publishing opportunities…
I always knew he would be big.
No one is saying newspapers have fact checkers. Because, as guest @ 4:55 said, they don’t. Never have, even in the flush times.
#9 – The Sartorialist is a style blog and there’s nothing stylish about uggs!
So they might be comfy blah blah blah. This is fashion we’re talking about. You wouldn’t expect to see someone in sweatpants and a hoodie on The Sartorialist and uggs are the shoe equivalent!
kudos to the no-go uggs!
I agree Uggs aren’t a fashion, they’re for comfort.
oh will everyone just get over them already?
