Spring 09 Marc: The Reality

marc jacobs spring 09 look 26.jpg Marc’s rather kooky mash-up of references for Spring 09 was a big hit with critics, and we expect that to show editorially.

But some of the key pieces have finally hit Net-a-Porter, offering close-up shots at what looked like a genius show in terms of styling.

Take, for instance, the dress at left. On the runway, it looked like many layers made up of a top, a skirt, an apron over the skirt, and an obi-style belt holding the whole thing together. It was witty, and it winked the whole time it was up on stage. So we’re a little surprised that it’s actually a dress, as in, an all-in-one deal (the belt is detachable, but who would ever take the belt off this look?).

Even though we still love a lot of the collection (we maintain the blue and yellow dress will end up in party pictures everywhere, and we’re in part to blame for the blue belt to have gone missing from NaP so quickly), the reality of the signature pieces from the show being versions of the long-sleeve-shirt-built-into-a-short-sleeve-shirt idea is just something we cannot live with.

I believe Saks sells some of the pieces from this collection by themselves. All I want is ths sash. Although the collection has been in almost every editoral since it was released.

While clearly not the opinion of the people on this post, the picture above does the dress NO justice.

I've tried it on and yes, it is less than conventional and certainly not overtly sexy in the manner of leopard print Cavalli but it is beautiful. The detail when you see the dress in person is absolutely outstanding and on the body it takes on a gorgeous shape, making the wearer look long and lean. It is edgy without being dark and detailed without being ostentatious. I think after seasons of "trends" and same-old-same-old being trotted down the runway, this dress is a breath of fresh air.

It really is gorgeous and a true expression of fashion and style, not what works on the pages of Us Weekly. This is not a dress Lauren Conrad could ever pull off. And might I say, Thank God!

Guest 5, on reading your comment i may have changed my mind. I think i may like this dress im just distracted by the dinner lady apron on the front, shame it cant be removed.

The picture of it on the model at netaporter makes it look very intriguing. I kind of agree with the post, because when I first saw it I though that great layer. As one piece it seems like a true waste of money because this is the type of dress that can only be worn once. That is only OK for gowns.

I have tons of things that can I have only worn once but at least in some alternative universe, they can be worn again.

I feel like I am the only one on the planet who found this collection to be terrible! I went into the store just to see what the pieces looked like in person, and I was pleasantly surprised...with the exception of that dress. That dress is just as ugly in person. I promise. There were other pieces that really stood out. One of my friends who worked in the store was wearing this cute blue jumper and looked amazing.
