We’re endlessly fascinated with the meeting of “real,” “reality” and “fashion” on television these days, and the way it endlessly fascinates us despite our constant stream of questions and concerns. Like:
1. Doesn’t Diane von Furstenberg (as in, the real DVF, not some character of herself she plays on MTV) care that the entire world has now watched her discuss Whitney Port’s love life on prime time?
2. Doesn’t Whitney Port care that the only time she actually got to talk to the real DVF (who, let’s face it, is always present with her on-screen self) was during a work party where she spewed about her boyfriend instead of about wanting to do more with her job?
3. Also, don’t the producers care that DVF just repeated the same advice we’ve heard her give several times?
Please, discuss this moment in true tele-reality. Because when Diane started playing with her hair and asking legitimate questions about Jay, we lost too many brain cells to think on this any further.

Agreed, the whole thing is getting too bizarre. At least on The Hills you got a sense that they actually did work at Teen Vogue?
Okay, I didn’t watch this, but I’ve interviewed Diane as I’m sure you have, and I kind of think she’d be down with chatting about Whitney’s bf even if she was an actual employee. She has a very maternal way.
Does DVF get payed for Whitney to work for them and not the other way round? I tried to watch the city but its too fake for words. I really dont believe Whitney is an actually employee.
I’d like to think that DVF is participating in a meta version of The City, playing a characterization of herself to the delight of the viewers and confusion of the cast. Like a David Lynch movie, but with much better dresses.
Even if DVF is a sweetheart and would talk some sense to a younger female employee in this way, this clip is utterly humiliating.
Hasn’t DVF’s appearance and involvement with this hot ego mess of a show sort of beaten up her (her being DVF) coolness factor? Like, my 45 year old sister refuses to buy/wear DVF because it now screams out, “I watch The City”.
I’ve had a few conversations with her and she has remembered me each time and keeps asking me about something I shared with her every time I see her. I think she’s really genuine here and elsewhere.
Judging by her last few collections, the comic book, and now the City, it looks like DVF is trying to expand her clothing line to younger women (Even if that means listening to Whitney’s mindless dribble). Smart women.

if it fits and makes your ex boyfriend jealous, it doesn’t matter who made it or if they happen to be on some fake reality TV show. It’s not like she’s doing body shots on the Rock of Love bus.
After watching the finale, I’m fully convinced that Diane should start a relationship advice column after it’s proved that the fall of her sales was caused by The City.
Thank you Guest 10! I don’t understand why everyone is so critical of Diane Von Furstenberg being on The City. I think she’s gorgeous and love every minute that they feature her on the show. Calm down people…it’s just fashion!
