Would you wear faux-denim legging jean things?
To clarify, those would be leggings screen printed to look like jeans with pockets, buttons, seams and sometimes even different washes and wrinkles for an authentic touch.
But seriously, we were at the Rock & Republic showroom this morning, which you already know, and one of the mannequins was wearing the leggings (we think they’re the same ones at left) from their Spring 09 collection, and from far away they actually looked like jeans. She even had her shirt tucked in.
And yes, we know she’s a mannequin – but we actually saw a couple of girls in Paris wearing them, too. Usually layered under t-shirts and cardigans with booties – but we’d always do a double take and think, “Really? Trompe l’oeil denim?”
Super tight super comfortable jeans sound like a no-brainer, but they also sound a touch too LiLo.
So, would you?

Comfy! But not those in the pic, only super skinny super models can pull off the strategically placed bleach/fading marks.
i’m not sure i would unless it was for a costume or something, but i have a friend with a pair and they look good on her.
african patterns and animal prints on the other hand…
only if they stop calling them ‘jeggings’ everywhere. some words are just not meant to be combined. ever.
at school, were not allowed to wear leggings as pants, i wonder if i could get away with these..if so, i would definitely wear them.
this is a question that has been plaguing me for months. on one hand, there is that unfortunate lohan effect, and the fact that i dont consider leggings pants. on the other, i find them rather cute, in an offbeat, kitschy way. im just not sure what to wear them with.
if i figured something out though, i think i would give them a chance.but only if they were on sale!!
I totally remember seeing those at Limited Too back in ’92 or so.
I don’t consider leggings as pants. I have seen one too many cameltoes for that thought to ever be acceptable by society.
I have been wearing the american apparel ones for the last year and i think they look good on me. I hate real denim because I just find them extremely uncomfortable.
On one hand, you have the ultimate skinny pant, except they’re not a pant, they are leggings and I will always consider them that.
I haven’t seen them look good on anyone irl, I think this one should stay on the catwalk.
BUT
If i were to wear them it would only be with a loose long tee in which case you might as well wear actual leggings.
Ugh – they just scream ‘fashion victim’ to me.
As an aside, “a touch to LiLo” was a nice burn. Who’d have thought a few years back that such a sweet gorgeous actress would later become most famous for coke binges and questionable fashion choices?
-gigi
they’ve been selling those in china town for the past couple years. I see little old ladies wearing them, if that isn’t gross enough.
Either way, no one should wear leggings as pants to begin with – no matter how good you think you look
no no no no no no no. so horrible. leggings shouldn’t be worn as pants. it’s not a flattering look on anyone. why would leggings that look like jeans be any different? they’re not.
american apparel has been selling leggings that look like jeans for awhile now, so its nothing new.
i got the faux denim leggings from american apparel over a year ago
DO NOT buy them! they pill like mad at the crotch. i asked one of the associates about it and she said they all got them for free and they all do the same thing.
just a heads up because i thought it was a good idea… but no
I have faux denim leggings — not as elaborate as those — and I’ve worn them as pants with longer shirts.
Leggings as pants are never acceptable. Under a tunic or long shirt, fine, but cameltoe should not be an accessory
hell no!!!
that is just cheap and tacky! wear real jeans!
Has anyone tried the ones by Built by Wendy? Those look like they’d actually be pretty cute.
AHHH I used to wear these when I was in 4th grade.
OK they have a dark demin version at target it even has the stitching
have to confess that i bought a pair at urban outfitters. a bit similar to the ones pictured above. and they are AWESOME! all my friends did a double take! would never wear them without something to cover the butt though…the printed pockets look distorted on my butt haha : /
No, I most certainly would not. FUG!
No, I wouldn’t wear those. they look kind of tacky and you can tell they are fake.
I got a pair online at Target and wear them as leggings. Previously I’d only worn black leggings, but the dark jean wash is pretty good –more subtle than other colored leggings.
PS. I call them “feans.” :)
i dont like fake looking things. they remind me of an upscale version of the horrible “tuxedo tee shirt”
yuck.
I think I would try them out
To Guest 18:
I have the Built by Wendy “denim leggings” in a nice dark navy color.
They are beautiful, and but they’re not leggings. They are skinny denim pants (yes they are made of denim) that are called denim leggings because they have no pockets, zippers, or bulk at the top or anywhere on them.
just a simple side zipper to keep it all together.
But they’re made of denim.
wow, my typos are really cute
**but they’re not leggings.
Yes, I would wear it. I don’t care if it’s LiLo, I have enough trouble trying to find a good pair of jeans that fit right and are comfortable.
I would, if I have legs like those!
“I see little old ladies wearing them, if that isn’t gross enough.”
Actually little old ladies are my fashion idols and I often admire things that they wear. Admittedly mostly when they still wear clothes from the 60s or 70s and less with jeans leggings, no reason to snear at little old ladies is all I’m saying.
they totally did sell these at the Limited in the early nineties. I had a pair. I looked ridiculous when I was twelve and they are still ridiculous.
I have a pair from Urban Outfitters… I get compliments on them all the time! I’d say they work best with heels & a slouchy tee.
hearts!
I saw a Vietnamese prostitute wearing these the other day.
leggings aren’t pants. and even if they were, this pair looks a tad ridiculous. it would distort like crazy if you didn’t look like that model.
and besides, when is cameltoe ever attractive?
i love them. i have a pair of denim-print tights that i got in a liquor store in LA a few years ago. i am obsessed with them. with this trend i am less embarrassed to wear them as pants and let my bum hang out.
# 36 I am now obsessed with the idea of a liquor store selling tights. Is that usual?
Top Shop had them in February. they’re very strange but quite funny at the same time.
I’ve gotta say, those would look terrible on me. Still, I’d be willing to give them a shot, since the idea itself is so snazzy. I do need something stylish but casual to wear out sometimes.
ermmmm i dunno! i dont think i could live with the fact that i am wearing leggings with a tank top. They would just feel very very strange… too weird for me!
YES!!!!! They would look awesome with purple, red, orange, and turquoisey green tops!!! please, in the future look for the clothline called RoRo :D jk, (there might be one) anyways…………….YES!!
OMG!!! im a gucci girl 2!!!! lolz anyways yes!
To: guest 41

To guest 43:
