Would You Wear

Would You Wear Faux-Denim Leggings?

denim legging jean things from r&r.jpgWould you wear faux-denim legging jean things?

To clarify, those would be leggings screen printed to look like jeans with pockets, buttons, seams and sometimes even different washes and wrinkles for an authentic touch.

But seriously, we were at the Rock & Republic showroom this morning, which you already know, and one of the mannequins was wearing the leggings (we think they’re the same ones at left) from their Spring 09 collection, and from far away they actually looked like jeans. She even had her shirt tucked in.

And yes, we know she’s a mannequin - but we actually saw a couple of girls in Paris wearing them, too. Usually layered under t-shirts and cardigans with booties - but we’d always do a double take and think, “Really? Trompe l’oeil denim?”

Super tight super comfortable jeans sound like a no-brainer, but they also sound a touch too LiLo.

So, would you?

Comfy! But not those in the pic, only super skinny super models can pull off the strategically placed bleach/fading marks.

this is a question that has been plaguing me for months. on one hand, there is that unfortunate lohan effect, and the fact that i dont consider leggings pants. on the other, i find them rather cute, in an offbeat, kitschy way. im just not sure what to wear them with.
if i figured something out though, i think i would give them a chance.but only if they were on sale!!

I don't consider leggings as pants. I have seen one too many cameltoes for that thought to ever be acceptable by society.

I have been wearing the american apparel ones for the last year and i think they look good on me. I hate real denim because I just find them extremely uncomfortable.

On one hand, you have the ultimate skinny pant, except they're not a pant, they are leggings and I will always consider them that.

I haven't seen them look good on anyone irl, I think this one should stay on the catwalk.
BUT
If i were to wear them it would only be with a loose long tee in which case you might as well wear actual leggings.

Ugh - they just scream 'fashion victim' to me.
As an aside, "a touch to LiLo" was a nice burn. Who'd have thought a few years back that such a sweet gorgeous actress would later become most famous for coke binges and questionable fashion choices?

they've been selling those in china town for the past couple years. I see little old ladies wearing them, if that isn't gross enough.

Either way, no one should wear leggings as pants to begin with - no matter how good you think you look

no no no no no no no. so horrible. leggings shouldn't be worn as pants. it's not a flattering look on anyone. why would leggings that look like jeans be any different? they're not.
american apparel has been selling leggings that look like jeans for awhile now, so its nothing new.

I have faux denim leggings -- not as elaborate as those -- and I've worn them as pants with longer shirts.

Leggings as pants are never acceptable. Under a tunic or long shirt, fine, but cameltoe should not be an accessory

I got a pair online at Target and wear them as leggings. Previously I'd only worn black leggings, but the dark jean wash is pretty good --more subtle than other colored leggings.

To Guest 18:

I have the Built by Wendy "denim leggings" in a nice dark navy color.

They are beautiful, and but they're not leggings. They are skinny denim pants (yes they are made of denim) that are called denim leggings because they have no pockets, zippers, or bulk at the top or anywhere on them.

just a simple side zipper to keep it all together.

But they're made of denim.

Actually little old ladies are my fashion idols and I often admire things that they wear. Admittedly mostly when they still wear clothes from the 60s or 70s and less with jeans leggings, no reason to snear at little old ladies is all I'm saying.

leggings aren't pants. and even if they were, this pair looks a tad ridiculous. it would distort like crazy if you didn't look like that model.

and besides, when is cameltoe ever attractive?
