The obvious question would be: What about TopMan? Is it crazy to go in there too? Are they separate stores?

Where's the love for the guys who read here

sorry! i only had time for two of the four floors - topman is the entire bottom floor - but judging from the 90% female line i imagine it's not quite as crazed! we might swing by this afternoon to see if it's calmed down so we'll make sure to check it out for you :)

what's the quality of the clothing like? Is it worth the price points? Seems like they move clothes at an H&M speed but with WAY higher prices. I am planning on going to check the place out this weekend/ next week.

I kind of think some of it looks cheap. I bought a dress from the first KM Topshop collection and was shocked at how cheap the fabric was when I received it. Perhaps they have fixed that with later collections. I personally would rather just go hunting at a thrift shop for a similar dress. At least the quality and price will be better aligned.

To all guy readers : The stuff is great, great prices ,great shoes and amazing deals. I kind of felt like I was at H&M inspired by the brits I bought necklaces and shirts, they have amazing shoes!!!! As always the girls have more stuff but they said more mens clothes will be coming, till then shop on my fellow male fashionista's

What the hell, people? They're just clothes. You make it sound like you were waiting to witness the second coming of Christ or something.

As an experienced British topshop shopper I can guarantee that at the prices of the american store you are being ripped off. Topshop is considered relatively cheap in London but here it is expensive and frankly the quality is appalling these days. It used to be much better. It is no better quality than H&M and just not worth the extra expense.

Yes they raised the prices and don't really pay attention to the current exchange rate - but you're saving on the shipping from across the pond. When I've gone to purchase from Topshop UK online I've given up at the last minute because of the outrageous shipping costs. Maybe they'll realize they need to lower them and cut us NYers a break, but until then I'm just going to be happy it's about the same as ordering online - but I can actually return it without paying the shipping all over again.

@7-

And not even that cool of clothes, truth be told. Topshop is kind of the "celebrity" of the fast-fashion world. No matter how blah the garment, it's all good because it came from Topshop and thus has however many degrees of separation from the cool kids. Honestly. I also bet that those prices will come down in a few months, once the initial rush of people who'll buy anything tapers off and the novelty is gone.

I agree with #8 and #9. Why are the US prices so much more? Kate Moss's Jewel Wing Jacket is $250 on the US site and £120 on the UK site. H&M at least keeps their prices about the same (from what I have seen).

i've been shopping at topshop for as long as i can remember and the quality on the whole is far, far better than anything at H&M. It is also very well designed. The footwear is fantastic as is the denim and knits- and their boutique range is brilliant.

The opening thing today was really fun, and I enjoyed the free tote bags, but I'm pretty upset about the sizing. Not all fashion lovers are twigs. I'm a size 10/12 in America and the size 16 dress I bought today (without trying on, the crowd was insane) does not fit at all. It upset me more than it should have, as it's the biggest size they sell.

Just wish more fashion places would embrace more curvy girls (as well as size 11 feet - shopping for me is pretty much a calculated task for me now).

Hey, hey, hey #6, that's fashionisteau to you! lol. I waited online for 2 hours, only ended up leaving with a pair of sneakers. I came in knowing they'd have a better selection for women without question and I floated all 4 four floors, and loved the atmosphere. I just hope they balance the trendy with some classic pieces for men since H&M seems to be learning that concept. I'm rooting for Topshop's success!!

Oh they will never pay heed to exchange rates. I'm from Ireland and a coat I paid €100 for at home was £80 in the UK. So really it should have been about €80.

i was checking out topshop online, and i've noticed a lot of the designs (including a color block dress i saw on there) looks like francesca's boutiques clothes. I like francesca's clothes because they're cute and don't seem cheap like H&M. but what do i know, i live in Cleveland where we have no cool stores/designer boutiques. lol

the extra charges must be due to shipping the items to America. eh, I'm staying away from Topshop and its website for now.

i've been a topshopper for 10 years and it's not as good as it once was-the prices are so expensive now. Having said that, the quality tends to be good and the design is usually awesome. And not to be funny but its about time the americans paid higher prices than us europeans for once-H and M is more expensive here and you'd die at the prices of American Apparel e.t.c.-outrageous!
