Quote of the Day

“Shoulder pads are the sartorial equivalent of the power ballad — uplifting, life-affirming, singing-in-the-shower-style confidence-giving, and totally and utterly designed for a female audience.” —Gemma Soames in the Sunday Times after a week of wearing Balmain in the real world.

Shoulder pads are a giant expiration date stamped on a person's look, seen primarily on those old enough that they should know better, or young and dumb enough not to.

i suggest the most recent ny times article in the style section about michelle obama's wardrobe choices when overseas recently, it supports this argument (anti-shoulder pads) to a tee

i don't think guests 1, 2 and 3 have actually tried wearing shoulder pads.
What Gemma Soames says is all true.
Try on some Balmain and you'll feel it.

I'm 2, back again. I've tried them. They looked ridiculous. I like my shoulders how they are- they balance my hips and that's enough for me. I see no reason to look like a linebacker with joint problems. Also, frankly, Balmain is getting waaaaaay too much airtime this season. It's as everywhere as freaking Ugg boots. I keep expecting my grandmother to show up in that green sequin dress or the military jacket.
