Until about a year ago, I didn’t give solid perfumes a second glance. Why would I pay $30 for a half-dollar sized tin of fragrance balm when I can get a full bottle for just $10 more?
But then I stumbled across the quirky French fragrance brand Crazylibellule and the Poppies. One swipe of their lip balm-sized Shangha√Øjava Blue Orchidée solid fragrance stick and I was hooked.
Now, I’m in love with solid perfumes. I can apply them to discreet spots, like behind my ears and my inner wrist, without having to do that weird, frantic spray-and-rub technique liquids demand. Also, the scents last longer because they’re usually oil and wax based. (Liquid perfume’s alcohol based which makes the scent start off strong and fade quickly.)
Now, every time I’m shopping for a new fragrance, my eyes wander toward the solids. The only problem is that the companies behind the popular fragrances I love treat solid perfume as a novelty, trotted out during holidays to drum up extra revenue. So I was stoked when I saw that Space NK just launched a solid perfume compact of Laughter, one of my staple warm weather scents.
I need everyone else to jump on the solid bandwagon. Am I alone in my newfound adoration? What perfumes would you like to see in a solid form?

I recently bought Bvlgari’s Au The Blanc, and while I love the scent I wish it lasted longer (I can smell it all day, but no one else can after an hour or so). If turning that into a solid would increase its life, I’m all for it!
I’m a big fan of Chanel Chance and Juicy Couture’s first fragrance (the second one not so much). With the latter, you have to purchase the gift set which I might do after I use up my current bottle. But I have a feeling Chanel might feel that solid perfumes are a bit on the trendy side.
Chloe!!!
i think i am allergic to regular spray on liquid scents. i always get a headache and sinus pain when i wear them, tried lots of brands. It doesn’t bother me when others where them though, unless its a lot, but i usually stay scent free, except for the scent of soaps, shampoos etc. that also don’t bother me.
i’m wondering if its some sort of fixing agent solely in perfumes/colognes and if a solid scent could be the answer???
although i’m not too frantic to smell to strongly, anyone know about this?
I lovee solid perfumes for on the go re-applying and sprays for home.
kiehl’s musk 1921
I don’t like the perfume solids. I just hate that waxy/oily feel. Back when i used to use Stella I would use the Parfum (which is the concentrated perfume scent) instead of the Eau de Parfum (the perfume spray bottle).
I’m a parfum girl all the way, you can apply it spot on and get a great scent without smelling like you bathed in it.
The concentrated parfum versions of popular perfumes are probably easier to find than the solid versions. I honestly thought the whole reason behind the solids was for travel convenience, and who touches up their perfume when they’re out?
I have been wearing Clinique’s Happy Heart for the past 3 years. I’ve tried other perfumes but i can’t tear myself away from this one because it makes me incredibly happy to smell it all day.
I use a scent called Sandalwood, it’s by Pacifica Perfumes. It comes in solid and in a spray. I absolutely love it, they have a lot of other scents as well! The cool thing about Pacifica is that everything is all natural and vegan!
I would love to see Angel by Thierry Mugler, The beat by Burberry, and Princess by Vera Wang in solids!
Guest 9- I heart Pacifica as well, those little tins are adorable and the scents are great!
Guest 10- See that’s my issue. Vera Wang did do a cute little Princes solid for the holidays this year but it was extremely limited edition. Why can’t brands just create a solid version year round? I don’t need anything fancy, just a sturdy little tin or stick will do!
fresh cannabis santal or cannabis rose! mmmmm.
#10…you must not be looking hard enough because Princess by Vera Wang DOES come in an adorable solid!
I would like everything by Jo Malone in solid! But especially the White Jasmine and Mint.
Um liquid perfume is not supposed to be rubbed together. It crushes the scent and ruins it.
Bond No. 9 has a few in solid too, but I’d love to see more.
Chanel’s Les Exclusifs, especially Sycomore. So sad that I fell in love with this very expensive fragrance yesterday. But they only make them in EdT! Kind of strange, would be nice to see a solid, especially since it might be more affordable!
This may sound weird, but…
My great grandmother was, as i call her, a “nomad”. She loved to travel and when her husband died (WWII). I just counted and i have about 34 boites of solid perfumes from Samos (greace). AND I LOVE THEM! Greak perfumes are awesome. (i wear them occasionally, because they are a little on the strong side). I AM A SOLID PERFUME GIRL! thanks for posting this! :D
^Greek and Greece… seriously…
Love solid perfumes – check out the new givenchy scent: http://www.stylecaster.com/news/1836/the-scent-of-a-givenchy-woman/BGQLZFVjUzRUPA==
Would love to have Escada’s Moon Sparkle in solids. Does anyone know if they are? (Must Google it…now!)
I haven’t tried looking but I would looooove to find Elle by YSL in a solid:):)
Darcykins- From my research, it seems that its the alcohol that causes people to have adverse reactions to spray fragrances. I’m a migraine-prone girl myself and if I happen to accidentally breathe in my perfume while I’m spraying it, I end up with one heckuva headache. Solid perfumes might be your answer. I wouldn’t suggest elixirs or parfums because if its the scent that’s causing you to get the headaches, those won’t help as they tend to be much stronger and more concentrated than EDT’s. Give solids a go, they might be the answer to your problem
thanks. i will.
i love that i can carry around my crazy libuelle solid in my purse and never worry about spillage! and it smells amazing… i got it at anthropologie
Never tried but I will now! Versace Bright Crystal in solid form por favor!
absolutely loves solid perfumes, plus they are so portable!
Chanel Chance. This would alleviate any worry of perfume breaking open in my travel bag, it’s a wonderful idea!
Chanel has been making fabulous solid parfums for years! I bought a Coco Solid Limited Ed. during the holidays more than 10 years ago that is more of a powder, which I like better than the waxy ones, and I use it constantly and it still smells fantastic! Last year I bought the Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Solid, in a gorgeous mirrored compact and little white leather pouch, but didn’t like the texture as much.
As for me, I’m a devoted fan and buyer and I let all of my sales girls know that I’ll buy year ’round! I’ve also been getting girlfriends hooked too, the regular favorite among them is the Marc Jacobs Solid!
