Adventures in Copyright: Ruffle Us This

ASOS POUR LA VICTOIRE LOUBOUTIN.jpgWe’re usually drooling over Christian Louboutin’s killer pumps, but the Spring 09 Adona have had our hearts beating fast since we laid eyes on their first incarnation on Phillip Lim’s runway.

Surprising to learn ASOS and Pour La Victoire are also big fans - they’ve gone ahead and knocked off the darling shoe. The Louboutins are going for $1,265 while ASOS black version’s sell for around $45 and Pour La Victoire’s for $225 on Shopbop. With the drastic price cut comes a downsized top ruffle - a shame since the brashness of the original made us love it so much in the first place. It’s like the shoe itself is embarrassed over its identity theft and is trying not to be noticed.

Christian gave the shoe an extra punch with its metallic coloring but the copies lack that extra oomph. Plus, just because Pour La Victoire added a zipper to their ruffle, does not mean the shoe’s more original.

The real deal might be bold and attention-grabbing, but the copycats are rightly stuck in its shadows.

I am pretty sure I'm about to risk being publicly executed but, oh well - I actually prefer the Pour La Victoire design... There, I said it.
I honestly don't think that just because something costs over $1,000 it is by default better looking than something under $400. I am sorry but it seems to me that our lovely fashionista girls get way too caught up in high price tags as the sole definition of superiority.

And the whole "just because Pour La Victoire added a zipper to their ruffle, does not mean the shoe’s more original" - REALLY? I think it makes it quite original. The black leather with a zipper gives them an edge, which makes them look like something I would actually wear. Unlike the burst of ruffled metallics which I would never put on my feet or have anything to wear with, for that matter. Sorry, Christian.
I never bitch about your posts on adventures of copyland - if it's just a cheap obvious knock-off of the original - fine, I agree. However I don't think this is the case here. The 3 of these shoes don't look too much alike to me... I mean, they slapped a leather ruffle on the shoe - it's not exactly invention of the wheel.
So dear fashionista, please stop trying to make it sound as if the pair of Pour La Victoire’s for $225 on Shopbop is pretty much the equivalent of a $2 sandal in Chinatown.

Ditto #4. I have the PLV ones and I love them. Isn't the whole point of a trend the fact that multiple labels and brands are showing the same general idea??

I love PLV as well, and the price point is perfectly mid-range...
It seems that they have no shortage of celebrity fans too, they must be doing something right.

I agree with AJB; the rip-offs just do not match the awesomeness that is the original Adona Loubie. The Dillian took it to the next level (and the next level in terms of price range for me, unfortch); anything less would be just sad.

Ugh, people who take the time to correct others' spelling and add nothing to the discussion are vile.

I have to chime in and agree that the PLVs are SO adorable. I've been stalking them on shopbop. Also, Steve Madden has a ruffly pair that is too devastating for the collective eyes of this onilne community.

The Louboutin shoe is vulgar. The other two are much cuter, no matter what the cost! I bet if Payless or Nine West brought out the Louboutin shoe first, you'd think it was very tacky.

My rule: a flat shoe, no matter who its by or what its made of, should NEVER be over $250

Kind of interesting - Rachel Zoe chose the Pour La Victoire pair as one of her picks on Piperlime

Wittner in Australia have a stiletto version of this heel but knowing them the flats will come out for our next summer (no point doing it now seeing we're going into winter at the moment but they've probably got them ready to go). They're notorious for their 'inspired' designs.

They've called them 'Belinda' and are selling for almost $190 Australian.

I am not ashamed to say I purchase some very ridiculously expensive items. But $1250 for flat, leather sandals? Even from CL? Sorry, unnecessary. Beyond that, the PLV pair are cuter to my eye, especially the peach ones on Piper Lime. Just because they're CL doesn't make them better. I spot hideous CLs on girls all the time.
