Because They’re Worth It

freida-pinto-b.jpg.jpegDuring Oscar season, many beauty types speculated that Estée Lauder would snag girl-of-the-moment, Freida Pinto as their next spokesperson.

And we were kind of loving the idea of seeing her co-star in a campaign with our beloved Gwynnie.

But, alas, L’Oreal has signed Freida along with Elizabeth Banks and Evangeline Lilly as their newest leading ladies.

These three make a lot more sense to us than the Jessica Biel/Revlon situation. Even though Evangeline hasn’t done a lot of film, obviously Lost has way more cred than 7th Heaven.

But this begs the question, what actress do you think deserves one of these lucrative beauty contracts who doesn’t have one? Or should they all just go to the models, anyway?

hostly i mean this in the nicest way possible but what kind of post is this? It's neither interesting nor controversial. Are fashionista girls really the type to sit around scratching their heads about what B actress should land the latest anti aging campaign...

It's a relevant post #2 - I'm so tired of people nitpicking on this site!
Frieda was definitely a great pick, sometimes I think Diane Kruger, but I mostly think it should be strictly models. Actresses are so airbrushed so that they don't even look like themselves! Also someone mentioned before that Anja Rubik should have one and I totally agree!

Diane Kruger/Zoe Saldana or Hilary Rhoda would have been better. Banks may be in a few films but she seems a bit crass.

Hilary already has a contract with Lauder. I agree on Zoe Saldana, she'd be a great pick. Also, Amy Adams or, weirdly Zooey Deschanel. I don't know why but I love her look and think she has a great face for beauty. Agree on Banks, she's a bit of an oddball pick for L'Oreal. But she's had a hot year with W and that stupid Seth Rogen pic, so I guess they are trying to capitalize on that.

i'm definitely all for models when it comes to fashion magazine covers and high fashion brands but when you're talking about brands like l'oreal or target and such it's kind of pointless to hire models because it would have no effect on the people they're trying to appeal to.

guest 7, the whole point of using models isn't for their celebrity its because they are better looking and better at doing beauty ads than american television stars.
i'm not going to buy a revlon product because someone i recognize from tv is the ad but because the ad is good; and i hope others feel the same way.

quite off topic but does anyone remember a show in which pornography models or strippers traded places with fashion models or something a long those lines? (typing this out makes me realize how crass a show like that would be but i'm sure i heard of something along those lines)

Check Fendi shows about ten years ago.
Karl hired this porn star of the moment to model for his show in Milan...Anna was less than impressed: she walked out lol...

I think Evangeline Lily is a great choice because she's a total tomboy and represents a different kind of woman. But generally I think the companies should stick to models.

Isabeli Fontana. I marvel that she hasn't had one already.

Du Juan...she seems not to be around as much anymore, but she's stunning.

I'd love to see Iris S get one...she's got such a strong, gorgeous face and a totally different look from most beauty contract girls. She'd be great for a designer beauty company (YSL cosmetics, Dior cosmetics, etc)

I am pleased to hear of evangeline lily getting one and i think its a very clever choice because kind of like #10 said, she stands for something a little bit different. and Darcykins-- thats why celebrities are used in fashion/beauty advertising so much... not because people that like the actress will buy the product, but because the consumers already have an idea of who that celebrity is and so the brand can associate that feeling with their product. unlike a model who is nothing more than a pretty face to 99% of people.

I also think it has alot to do with memory as well. You wont remeber the face of an anonymous model a couple days after seeing them in an ad for something you liked in a store, but an actress that you are very familiar with will have a better chance of remaining in your mind.

But I wish all advertising catered to me, and so i wish that models were used in all cosmetics advertising.

Evangeline Lily is perfect for it. I'm struck each week on Lost by how beautiful she is.

I'd also pick Rosario Dawson, Christina Ricci or Courteney Cox Arquette.
