Hats On

julia_roberts2.jpgWe find ourselves sitting here pondering: what would Vivian do? Yes, that would be the Vivian played by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

You see, we’ve now actually been invited to the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic which we already imagined like a scene out of the the movie.

You may also remember us swooning over Prince Harry’s attendance. We weren’t sure we’d be able to go, but now that we are, we’re flummoxed over hat choices.

While we may not share a profession with the fictional Viv, much like her, we don’t oft have occasion (or inclination) to wear the type of hat that feels proper for an afternoon of polo on Governor’s Island.

We also don’t have Edward’s credit card to max out.

Plus, we’ve always found that hats are one of the hardest things to shop for. Any shop suggestions that carry options that might also work for beach weekends? Oh, and we’re also in the market for something for our everyday city-centric selves, too.

I am so excited you did an article on hats! I have recently purchased a hat and can't seem to get enough of it. While friends think it's funny to joke that i look like jason mraz or one of the members of the rat pack, it is in fact fashionable. so basically, thank you for the proof!

guest 1 & 2, nobody said all hats are fashionable or that your hat is fashionable, but rather how difficult it is to pick out the perfect hat because so many are not fashionable.
that said, enjoy your hat! i'm sure its nice.

You know, the rules of good writing are similar to the old fashion adage that says you should always remove one accessory before you leave the house.

This article is very wordy and loosey-goosey--don't you guys edit each other?

Let me just say that I'm BEYOND ecstatic that you've just referenced my favorite movie of ALL time!! The fact that this amazing scene is shown (that dress!) just brings so much joy to my day.

thanks girls!

on a side note... tell Harry he can be my Edward ;)

well my dear, there is a very cute hat shop on thomson between spring and prince. I have bought there myself...I think you could find something for the occasion for about 200-250.

I'm pretty fashionably lazy right now. But if I were going, I'd totally wear my hipster trilby purchased from Uniqlo. Easy peasy. Yeah, that's pretty lazy.

That outfit on Julia is pretty ugly.

Harry is blatantly racist; nothing to swoon about.

If you paid $18 for anything on St. Marks #8, you basically got ripped off.

Abby, here's a suggestion for you

Totokaelo.com has some amazing hats by Albertus Swanepoel (CFDA fashion fund runner up!). Straw fedoras that would work for city or beach I think!

guest 14, i'm not mean. Reread my comment. i said something nice. it wasn't meant to be sarcastic. i'm sorry if it seemed so.
i just found guest 1's comment funny because they though fashionista writing about hats validated their hat and rendered ALL hats stylish.

#14, I don't think I'm being mean. They are only my views and everyone has free will to ignore it. So what if I think brown with white polka dots is fucking ugly. So what if I think the only good thing about Chuck and his family is Kate Middleton.
I did give Abby a suggestion on a look with a certain kind of hat.

Forgive me for using selective influence.

anthropologie has some lovely hats that would work at the polo classic AND the beach... i'm partial to the dunescape hat-- the brim is huge!
