Karl Loves Lily

lilly allen lands chanel.jpgLily Allen’s landed on that oh-so-enviable list of Karl Lagefeld’s favorites.

Elle UK reports that after much campaigning - she does carry Chanel handbags everywhere and she does sit front row at Chanel each and every season - Lily will be the face of Chanel accessories for AW09. Karl’s set to shoot her next week in London.

We’ve long been told of Karl’s obsession with youth and young people and if there’s such thing as the perfect person to carry off lucite encased 2.55s and furry pink evening clutches - it’s probably Lily.

Or Blair Waldorf, but since she’s not real Lily’ll do.

Lily is adorable...good choice...it might switch up the Chanel image a bit, as they have always favored a sort of...more modelesque image then Lily. Though..it won't make me love the ads as much as I loved those of Kate :)

I like Lily as much as the next fashionista, but...really?? I think that's a bizarre and irrelevant choice. Her career isn't exactly on fire right now and i wouldn't consider her the picture of sophistication and beauty that Chanel represents...maybe it's just me, though.

Don't get me wrong, I love Lily Allen - but never in my life could I have imagined her becoming a face of one of the most luxurious brands out there...

Chan Marshall was the better choice.

Lily Allen is adorable, don't get me wrong but the face of Chanel? Come on Karl! It wasn't that long ago Lily was sporting head to toe pink neon baseball hats and ghetto gold earrings. Chanel is the epitome of true glamour and sophistication and in the end, Lily Allan is not that, plus young girls who look up to Lily couldn't afford a Chanel accessory if they saved up working at there p/t job for over a year.

I guess I'll be the first to admit that I don't, in fact, love Lily. She seems awfully sweet but her music isn't great and her constant self- deprecation comes across as sad instead of endearing. The face of Chanel should be confident and graceful. Sorry Lily :(

Lily Allen seems as sad a choice as Karl looks like an aging vampire. Chanel starts to appear to be grasping at straws. When you'll do and use anyone or thing because it's young means you're getting very long in the tooth and pathetically short in the memory department. They deserve each other. Chanel is clearly in a slow decline.

I find it rather comical that people love to label Chanel certain words like "the epitome of glamour and sophistication." While yes, the label does represent the two, the label has also become more edgy and experimentive. I mean have you not seen the types of people who've attended the shows lately (Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Kanye West, and Rihanna). They all are very cutting edge in their own right. And Coco Chanel was never a conformist to the sophistication that extended to the earlier part of the 1900s. She was a rebel of her times, just as Lily Allen is a rebel of sorts of our times. Let's not be so elitist when we refer to the Chanel brand because today we never know who can or can not afford such a classic brand as Chanel!
