I love fashion just as much as anyone,
but all of this concentration on fashion in the White House seems like overkill considering all of the problems the world is dealing with! - A cardigan and full skirt or the tanking economy, global warming and countless people who are dying in the war.

my my this administration is so friendly with the fahion press aren't they? is iT that the fashion indsutry is trying to align themselves with this admin so they can appear not as frivolous...or is it jsut the admin overindulging themselves? i can't decide. I think the world could care less about what designers the social secretary is wearing than swin flu, crippling economy....as much as I love the obamas, this is overkill. the "event planner" need not dress herself in oscar and flaunt it when half the ppl in the US right now are losing their jobs and lining up to collect unemployment left an right. nor does the obama name need to become a brand live Dove in any way or form...let the advertising industry take care of branding products and the event planner tak care of planning appropriate events at the white house.

I agree with other commenters, I'm so over all these Michelle Obama fashion stories. Just having a better body than the past few First Ladies does not make her a style icon.

I agree with commenter number three, and I think Desiree Rogers comments are so insensitive and out of touch it's embarassing.
If she's not careful, she may find herself like countless other Americans, in long unemployment lines, with no events or ballgowns in sight.

Very sad to see Rodgers supporting calvin klein as the brand rarely uses models of color.

U people have nothing else to complain about with this administration so u attack them for merely being stylish. JUST SHUT UP!! What are they not human? Do they not need nice clothing to make appearances in? Commenters one thru 5 would do tricks like my puppy if they had the American media knocking at their door offering them magazine covers.I think what these people are overlooking is the fact that Michelle is THE FIRST AND ONLY BLACK FIRST LADY. The Obamas have only been in office for 100 days we are just starting to realize that we have made the absolute right decision by electing Obama and that is why Michelle and Desiree will always be more than just style icons. I don't think white people realize the big deal this actually is and just want us to shut u and get back to being subordinate and that will not happen. YES WE DID BITCHES!!!!

First of all, I wouldn't be doing any tricks, like a puppy or otherwise, if I had the American media knocking on my door. I don't need the media to determine my self-worth.
As a white person, I am very aware of the monumentous significance of Barack and Michelle Obama. What I like best about them is that even in these troubled times, they continue to inspire hope; something that has been lacking in the political system for far too long. The fact that they do this while being incredibly stylish is a fabulous bonus.
My comments about Desiree Rogers would have been the same if she were a white party planner. She appears to have not gotten the memo that this economy does not allow for frivolity.
While I don't agree with your comments, number 7, I believe you have the right to make them, and I don't want to you or anyone else to 'shut up' or 'get back to being insubordinate'.
You seem to be making the same assumptions about the first five commenters that you rail against in your post.

My apologies, I meant to write "being subordinate".

#8 your passion is certainly justified and #9 I don't see that you were saying anything to silence or edit#8. The point is that we as a country are in trouble. We have the first black President and First Lady who happen to be brilliant and are doing a fantastic job. Even under the awful pressures that we, all of us and they face. What is unfortunate is that Desiree Rogers is the only clueless one in the inner circle. I am convinced that her motivation is self serving and not even remotely aligned with the needs of Michelle Obama. She , who will do anything for a photo Op...and wanting to wear Oscar de la Renta when he publicly insulted and denigrated Mrs. Obama for not wearing his clothes, should have been enough for Rogers to steer clear of him and his collection. But she is fixed on herself at the expense of Michelle's image, ethics, and self respect. Rogers needs to be escorted to the side gate and wished well in future endeavors. She is not the right choice for the job.
