tie dye diy ss09.jpg

We love shoes, and we love Dazed and Confused style tie-dye.
Needless to say, when we saw these Reed Evins tie-dyed sandals on Oak’s website, we were in love. The price, however, was a bit out of our range. We’re on a self-imposted major purchase hiatus.
So we got ourselves in a summer camp frame of mind and DIY-ed our own version. Now we’re totally set for that next party at the Moontower. And for our next pair, we’re totally trying multiple colors.
You’ll need:
A pair of sandals (we used a super inexpensive pair from Forever 21)
Fabric dye (any color!)
Elastics
Super Glue
Scissors
Steps:
1. Grab a piece of fabric and then wind a few elastics around it. We continued to do this until our t-shirt was totally covered with elastics. The more the better.
2. Die your fabric. Just follow the directions that are on your box of fabric dye, and let the shirt dry overnight.
3. Lay your t-shirt down flat on the ground and cut it into strips that are about 1.5 to 2 inches wide. These strips will become the fabric for your straps.
4. From here, it’s as simple as tying and gluing on the fabric. We started with the back strap, and went from there.
5. Cut off the excess fabric
6. Seal the ends with super glue.

Just out of curiosity… You guys love exposing Adventures in Copyrights on your blog. How is this any different? (Not sure if I know the answer myself…)

I’m going to make myself a dior ring and fashion myself some YSL sandals since it’s okay to copy if I’ve made them!
But I’m not saying the shoes are bad, I can tell you took time into making these and they’re actually cute!

this particular diy is different enough from the reed evins sandals to not be a complete copy. and seriously, $278.00?!

The difference is Melissa isn’t going to make thousands and sell them off for profit. She’s making a pair for herself and sharing her idea for free.

Here, here guest #4 and great job again Melissa!!

or is it hear! hear!? before people start commenting on my grammar : )

Well said Guest 4/6.

sweet! please please keep the diys coming!

your diy’s have gone way down hill, the other one with the pleated necklace look horrible, i dont even know who would ever wear that piece of shit. please, kick it up a notch and have these damn interns do something other than really bad DIY’s

I think they are great. I have been wanting a pair of sandals like this and was not going to pay hundreds of dollars for the Reed ones. I love the diys! And listen guys they are teaching you to make them yourself. It’s a do it a home project. They are not a chain and mass marketing a designer’s creation. Chill!

i wonder if i can find those sandals at XXI. i have a DIY of my own that requires some cheap sandals just like those.

wow 9, b*tchy! maybe offer some direction about what you’d like to see if you’re going to be so passionate about it? it’s hard to get all negative feedback, and poor interns are people too!

Cute DIY! I’m linking to it at http://dollarstorecrafts.com next week.
