Fashion Is Fun

A Day on the Pitch

chloesevignyatpolomatch.jpgAfter the lovely afternoon we spent on Governors Island on Saturday, we’ve officially become polo fans. And also please sign us up for the Nacho Figueras fan club. We knew his face was dreamy from all those Ralph Lauren fragrance ads. Let us just say the real thing is unbelievably better.

You know how excited we were to don our hats and watch Prince Harry play.

And by the way, thanks to all of you who recommended The Hat Shop on Thompson. How I’ve missed popping in there over the years is beyond me but I found the perfect Chapeau Chateau fedora that worked for the match and will now become one of my summer staples.

The people watching at the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Classic was a dream. The best dressed of the afternoon was certainly Chloe Sevigny in Chloe. And the cutest couple: Marc and Lorenzo, who was wearing checked shorts. (Madonna, Jesus Luz, and little David Banda joined them in the VIP tent later on. Oh, to have been at that table!)

Color was everywhere - from WASP-y male types in their green or Nantucket red pants to Alek Wek’s bright orange cast. We love seeing someone make an injury work in an outfit’s favor.

Oddest sartorial moment of the day: Two grown women dressed exactly alike, right down to the hats and shoes, who never left each other’s sides. They totally reminded us of those sisters in My Best Friend’s Wedding, and not in a good way.

Here’s hoping we get invited back next year.

you do realize that everyone is "invited" as long as they can pay, right?

Lol # 1. You could've also just picnicked for free as I did with my friends. Maybe the NY readership would've appreciated the tip instead of hearing Abby brag. We had an awesome time, met a lot of lovely peeps and even made it on to Getty Images a couple of times. Not bad saving $500pp and chilling in the pleb section.

There's enough exclusivity in fashion without having to exaggerate insider access. LMO.

Is it an American thing to wear hats to polo? I've been to polo matches in Buenos Aires and no hats. I've never seen Kate Middleton or Chelsy Davy wearing hats at polo events in England. I always thought hats were for the races.

With polos, and definitely ones like this, there are all different sections. And with people who have certain jobs, and certain jobs in fashion, I have a pretty good idea that the writers of this site probably didn't have to pay for their tickets, nor were they sitting in the "pleb" section as you called it. They were probably excited because they were, in fact, invited to the polo and got to meet/see the other fashion people who were invited too. I would be excited if I got to see Marc there also. (don't even get me started on Prince Harry).

Lucky bitches.
