Chloë’s Big Love of Fashion

00130m[1].jpgChloë Sevigny mentioned to style.com that she’d be interested in collaborating with a high-end company, voicing admiration for Sofia Coppola’s collaboration with Louis Vuitton.

Now, we’ve loved Chloë since Kids and her intern days at Sassy, and think she has great personal style, but her collection for Opening Ceremony was…fine. The pieces she rocks best usually aren’t her own designs. So, I’m not sure why she should garner so much positive attention as a potential designer.

It’s not that I think actresses or singers or artists shouldn’t be able to try their hand at design (I too am loving the Sofia-designed Louis bag), but just because a gal (or guy) dresses well, doesn’t mean they should be invited into the fashion industry to run around like a kid in a candy shop.

Everyone cheers for Chloë but freaks out about Miley and Lindsay. The freak-outs are for good reason, no arguments here. But I’m also personally done with Chloë as fashion designer.

Totally agree... I think if she wants an offshoot career-she'd perfect as a stylist. Not a designer.

I agree with this post, and guest 1. I think Chloe has great style, but shes not a designer; describing her Opening Ceremony pieces as "fine" is right on the mark.

Let's be honest - to call her collection "fine" is generous!

Harsh much? I'm sure that shes not actually going to design an actual collection. Just like Sopfia for Vuitton, who I'm sure just sketched some rough designs and had the team at LV interpret that into an actual shoe or bag, Chloe will probably do the same, I think she would also be great at styling.

oh please, chloe like kate moss, present collections that are merely a redo of all the outfits she's wore in the past. that sofia coppola's "design" of a louis vuitton clutch looks like every other clutch just with the logo spewed on it. what exactly is original about it? nothing.

maybe that's the bigger issue here. making shit and calling it gold.

chloe couldn't design her way out of a wet paper bag, we all know it, and calling her OC collection 'fine' is like serving lukewarm vomit on a spoon and telling me it is ice cream...smells like yesterday's undercooked herring and i wouldn't eat (eh-hem, wear) it if you paid me.

ditto for any imaginary future collaboration. i heard she even not-so-subtly dropped the hint that she wants to hook her only occasionally stylish hipster wagon to hermes. lord help US ALL if that unholy event should come to pass.

i'm shuddering.

and not just because i, you know, went to SCHOOL and earned a DEGREE to design clothing. because that would make my comment just sour grapes, right?

well serve me some sour grapes...they certainly taste better than a spoonful of whatever random shit she's peddling.

Hmm Guest #6 seems personally invested and highly peeved?

I'd say calm down?

Anyways...Chloe does have amazing style. And I agree with everyone else on her collection. It was ho hum, below run of the mill. Better than Lauren Conrad's version since it looked like some creativity went into it...But I would not wear anything from it. eck.

But the thing is, while I wouldn't wear anything Chloe's been pushing, I would totally wear the things Kate Moss puts out.

If LiLo put out a version of some of the shoes/clothes (her leggings were not the business) she wears at a more respectable price for her status, then I would totally buy it.

Chloe did it once, so I would like for her to hold off a bit before trying again.

It is so frustrating to see all of these famous (even not so famous Lauren Conrad) women get to be "fashion designers". It sends out a message to the world the designing is easy and anyone can do it, while that is so far from the truth.

If you want to see a true original new designer check out S.LOVE. www.slovenyc.com

This new designer does really amazing things with an airbrush.

Don't ever, put Chloe Sevigny in the same league as Lauren Conrad. Like just don't even go theree

Chloe has talent, and an amazing sense of style,
perhaps you just didn't understand her vision.
(maybe you don't have a clue?) haha

and those shoes shes wearing are selling on pre-release due to popular demand.

I'm not a fan of Chloe's style. And almost all celebs seem to be jumping into the fashion designer bandwagon. Seriously.

Guest 6, that was awesome (I especially liked the part about warm vomit on a spoon). I don't blame you for being pissed. Granted, I love Chloe Sevigny, but I hate the fact that every celebrity thinks themselves a designer!

i'm obsessed with chloe, her style, her acting - everything about her.
but i hate celebrity designers. please do one thing, and do it well.
there are people out there working their asses off and putting their entire lives into their designs and these celebrities just waltz right in and talk their way through a collection. it makes me sick.

I do think that her collection for Opening Ceremony was kinda of bland but I do agree with certain guests - she would be pretty good at styling.

Actually #5, Terence Koh gold-plated his own shit and it sold for $500k.
