Fashion Is Fun

Father O’ Mine

abbyanddad.jpgWe all know Father’s Day is this weekend. Or if this is your reminder, get to rush ordering online stat!
And this dad’s day-inspired story that Refinery29 did on their blog just made our Friday morning. They’ve got a slew of photos that staffers and fashion friends sent in of their cooler than cool dads.
Not surprisingly, Chris Benz’ dad is kinda smokin’ hot, way hip, and looks to have been shot in Cameron’s garage from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. And a little Kate Lanphear and her pop are in coordinating tanks. Aw!
Of course, it got me thinking about my own dad’s style. (That is indeed him and yours truly in the photo. He rocks that sweet ‘stache to this day…and now it’s totally in again!) You see he’s the one I got my shoe addiction from. The man loves a great pair of shoes. And he’s so much more of a clothes horse than my mom.
My favorite fashion phase was when he got super into madras in the form of shorts, pants, and blazers. Actually, I think I’m going to tell him to bring those back into rotation.
What’s your favorite dad fashion moment…good or bad?

Say what you want but mine is a reversal, my dad is so NOT into fashion which is funny since Im so fashion obsessed. For as long as I can remember my dad has worn Reebok sneakers, Levi’s jeans, Hanes t-shirts and a black belt. My dad is tall and thin and handsome and he could pull of anything, and although sometimes my mom and I love to get him dressed up I actually have to admire his casual care free “uniform” that he’s been rocking forever. This is a great piece.

You people seriously have no IDEA how many members only jackets my dad used to have. He had them in every neutral shade (light khaki, dark khaki, taupe, tan). Mind you, he wore them with office clothes, rocked a mustache, serious side-part, and giant eighties glasses. Such a disaster. I think my mom would throw them out one at a time so he wouldn’t notice.
Anyone know how to get a user name?

#2 – register?

My dad still to this day comes home from work, changes outta his dress pants and puts on his sweats\addidas wind pants and then keeps his dress shirt on tucked in, with sneakers and then he leave the house like that to do errands!!!
…And ill just yell at him

Really cute photo !
Me and my dad’s best fashion moment.
Seeing as my parents were divorced and I lived with my mom. Every visit of my dad consisted of and outing that followed the same pattern Shopping for clothes (mainly dresses) and eating at MC Donalds.

well my dad’s best fashion moment ever is last year, when he went to a meeting with my 15 year old brother and his spanish teacher wearing 2 different pairs of shoes, accidentally. his absent-mindedness is part of why I love him

Anyone want to point me towards a register button? I’m sure it’s somewhere completely obvious and I am just missing it. Thank you!

Several years ago when the bernie mac show came on my dad and i would watch it togeth and my dad began to seriously admire Bernies style. Bernie would often wear these the kahki capris and they really caught my dads eye and so he looked around to find some but when his search returned no results he decided just to take out the sewing machine and shorten some jeans of his own to a more bernie approved length. Obviously they didnt look good, but i was really proud of my dad for being brave enough to try something so new and unusual like that.

My parents are the fucking coolest adults I know. Even though my dad flew fighter jets and his wardrobe consisted of nylon jumpsuits, aviators and a bag to hold his helmet, he still had tremendous style outside of work.
I have a black and white wedding photo where dad’s wearing a black 1960s slim suit with skinny tie and black zip-up mod boots. Like some daughters with their mothers, I also borrowed from my dad’s closet when I grew to be his size.
Dad,
I want to thank you for driving a black Citroen even though mom wanted a Mercedes. I want to thank you for introducing me to Hemingway, Steinbeck, McQueen, Bronson, Presley, Cartier, French New Wave, S. Buck, even though I was only in elementary school. I want to thank you for never ever being late to anything even though you got irritated when everyone else took too long. I want to thank you for getting me the Statue of Liberty silver dollar for my 13th birthday. That was really fucking symbolic.
love,
your oldest son
