Is the New New: Hips & Shoulders

beyonce-435[1].jpgAfter seeing the Richard Avedon fashion photography exhibit at the International Center for Photography, our love of fifties glamour is revived. We especially love the circle skirts that give volume to the models’ slim frames.

The fifties have certainly never disappeared from the fashion spotlight but what’s being accentuated of late, however, is the hips - going back to the Balenciaga S/S 08 runway or Galliano’s Lisa Fonssagrives-inpsired couture with its armor-like hip plates.

But it seems that the shoulders had to take their turn first.

Now that we’re all more than a little sick of that Balmain jacket, the hips taking center stage, quite literally in some cases.

Sasha and Carine brought the look to the beach and the past two nights, Beyoncé sang and danced in a gold Thierry Mugler leotard with padded hips at Madison Square Garden.

Seeing as this is an area of the body that often causes loads of female insecurity, do tell us, would you ever try out this look?

Born with plenty of hips, so I definitely don't need any help. I'll pass.

i really don't think Beyonce needs any more cushion in that area. and i'm not a fan of the padding. poofy skirts are fine, but padding is just silly.

is this + endless beth ditto an indication we're on our way to making fat fashionable? fab...

I was trying to figure out why her pictures bent over looked so weird and lumpy.

And from that observation alone, I will not be trying hip padding.

I don't think I deceive anyone by wearing a push up bra...but I would feel a bit weird by wearing padding to make my butt look bigger or my hips look curvier. It's just not my body in my opinion.

And if I run the risk of lumps...I just can't feel attractive.

I don't think I'd ever *pad* my hips... but accentuate them? Sure. It's nice for the emphasis to be on something other than the huge boobs I haven't got. ;-)

Huzzah for the hip padding! Being top heavy with excellent hips and fabulous legs, I'm sure I can rock the look.

I think it looks ridiculous. Why have huge hips if you don't have to. Just be yourself. And hell to the no, I would not try this look considering I just lost 30lbs to get rid of them (hips that is).
