Quote of the Day

“I, for one, am over the mania for the high, high heel. Too many career women look like a herd of fashion beasts, aping one another in impractical shoes.” —Andre Leon Talley on the death of the towering heel.

I used to think they looked like giraffes and even started using giraffe as a verb to demonstrate, i.e. "The fashion girls giraffe around in their big shoes."

It's a noble ideal, but it will never happen. Short-heeled shoes just don't look good. At this point in time, they're not in style. And its doubtful that designers will suddenly get the urge to make more comfortable shoes.

(Either way, I find kitten heels to be just as hard- if not harder- to walk in then 3+ inch heels.)

What might be a better ideal would be to make the sole a little more form-fitting to the foot. Add an arch or make it, well, squishy. Any of these adjustments could remain hidden in a simple platform, and be a lot easier on the toes.

Dear Christian Louboutin,

I have a grown-up job, so sometimes I buy your shoes. I am 5'8''. A 120mm heel makes me look like a hooker, but all your most beautiful shoes are that high. Please start making pretty shoes in 100mm, and jazz up your 80mm.

Thanks!

Super-high heels were bound to die one day soon. Yet, it's nice to know that they are gone for now.

totally agreeeeeeeee. the same heels i loved two months ago on the runway seem so ridiculous when you see them in all their glorious impractical reality.

i must say i despise the look of most mid-height heels with the exception of flat platforms... it's either high or flat with me, no middle ground. i've been lovin flats lately.

I agree - props to women who feel comfortable walking in 4 inch heels but dang it the rest of us who consider 3.5 inches with small platform at the bottom of the footbed as adventurous - we need attractive and sexy options at 2.5-3.5 inches that dont look like orthapedic shoes.

hahaha whatever. I'm 5'2" and I need all the height I can get. Bring on the five-inchers.

If you build it, they will come.

Funny, the market wants an average heel height...60mm. Even ask for it every season.
But the designers. They do not listen. Flat or 120. There is no in between.
I personally agree.

As long as people continue to procreate, there will always be high heels.

I remeber watching Stylista and thinking Anne Slowey can't walk in high heels.

HAHAH darcykins.

It's all about timing of course, we've all been into heels, but now that we've worn heels for long enough to send us to the foot doctors, they're switching us to flats again. : )
