Flea Fever

brooklynfleamarket.jpgI used to be such a great flea-market shopper. I had the touch for finding the perfect (and cheap) mid-century modern table to hold my TV or the most genius antique jewelry.

And don’t even get me started on the joy I would get on that one Sunday a month at the Rose Bowl Flea Market during my SoCal years. Lately, I’ve lost my passion and haven’t been to one in ages.

But I plan to change that this weekend by heading over to the Brooklyn Flea in Brooklyn Bridge Park and checking out, among all the vintage and trinkets, Time Out New York’s booth. They’ve got Tauk, Cheap Monday, Heather Huey, and lots more, all at discounted prices.

This summer I’m finding my treasure-hunting mojo if it kills me. What’s your favorite flea market and the best thing you ever found there?

To-ji Temple market in Kyoto. I found a pre-war white silk hand-embroidered wedding kimono for five bucks.

The Mobile, Alabama flea market is the best I've ever been to. Lots of yummy fruits and vegetables from local farmers and tons of junk from people's garages to sort through. The best thing I've ever found there is my dog Stanley.

I would always go to the flea markets in posh quarters, because there they mostly have more qualitaive stuff than on the normal ones, f.e. I just bought a blue Birkin bag from Hermes for 40 € and saw a classic Burberry coat being sold for 18€, aargh, I would have wanted to grab it out of her hands and scream: NOOO, I want to buy this (like in Shopaholic)! But I still bought a lot of nice things, so I am happy ;-)

i lived in both LA and NYC, and I love marketing on the weekends. can't WAIT for the rose bowl this sunday, but in nyc the brooklyn flea was totally fantastic. it's waay smaller than the rose bowl (its like a small city!) but it's got some great quality stuff there!

My best purchase ever was a vintage fur coat at a Swiss fleamarket for 35€. And in my very own hometown a truck load of handmade and some couture dresses for 10€ (14$) a piece :http://dreamlovely-anne.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-dress-like-lady.html

I totally went nuts when I found the dresses also there were some vintage pucci dresses for 15€ and my mum went gaga over those.Im definately a fan ov fleamarkets.

Went to Brooklyn Flea this morning and got an amazing silk dress for U$60.
The market is small , location is great and you can always have an ice-cream at Jacques Torres at the end of the day ...

this is a tad random because it's not in the US, but my favorite flea market of all time has to be portobella market in london. i found the greatest costume jewelry! nothing beats my vintage find of an extremely 80s, (shoulder pad & all!), cropped jacket by Lanvin for about $20 US dollars. i highly recommend it if anyone is ever across the pond!

I'm originally from NY, and now live in FL, where there is absolutely nothing going on. I would just like to express my profound hatred and jealously of you all. Cheers!
