Match Point

rogerfedererwimbledon2009jacket.jpgFashion and tennis have always shared a special bond: Coco Chanel, Lacoste, Anna and Roger.

Today marks the beginning of the most fashionable, in our opinion, of all the Grand Slams - Wimbledon. It must be noted that I am a huge tennis fan and much like Ms. Wintour, I have much affection for Mr. Federer. Though, unfortunately I do not get the chance to frequently jet to his matches.

I look forward to seeing what the people at Nike come up with for him every year for this tournament. It’s always dapper and ultra chic, like this jacket in the picture, though the cardigan sweater from last year might be my favorite.

I simply swoon over the classic gentlemanly touches and the retro feel. It just sums up everything that I think Wimbledon should be sartorially.

Maybe he can throw some advice about subtlety in fashion choices Serena Williams’ way if they cross paths at Centre Court, because we’re a little unsure about the gold pants as well as some of her on-court choices.

Do you prefer the classic look or something a little jazzier on the court? If you like tennis, that is.

Love tennis. Hate Federer. Despise the jacket.

Novak Djokovic looks the best in my opinion. Subtle and simple.

Federer always tries too hard.

Federer is such a great role model and just a decent human being. He is unbelievably kind to his fans. For someone of his superstar status and talent, you would think he would be a total A-hole ala Pete Sampras (a MAJOR jerk if you ever get to meet him). But I really can't stress how nice Federer and his wife are...must be his Swiss upbringing!

*And no, I do not work for Roger Federer so save your snarky comments.

I love tennis as well, but as far as men's goes I've always preferred more classic looks à la Lacoste and/or Fred Perry. As much as Federer's cardigan was lovely last year, his gold and white get up left just a little to be desired today...

Wow, guest #1can you really call yourself a tennis fan if you 'hate' Roger? But back to the topic at hand, I love Rogers classic looks, last year especially, but I also like the more jazzier outfits as long as they look good. My favorite on the womens tour is Sharapova, her 2007 U.S. Open outfit amazing

I'm a big fan of the classic Tennis look and an even BIGGER fan of Roger. Recently was debating on an outfit to don as a spectator to Wimbledon.... http://www.what2wearwhere.com/blog/post/2009/06/15/W2WW-Challenge-What-to-Wear-to-Wimbledon.aspx

I'm a HUGE federer fan but not too sure about this year's jacket (and don't get me started on the waistcoat under it).
Much prefered last year's cardigan and LOVED his 2007 US Open outfit (all black).

GO ROGER!

Did you guys read that article on Nadal in the Times Magazine this weekend? There was a bit about how Nike switched him from tank tops to short sleeved shirts and pissed off a lot of his female fans.

I would have to agree that Federer is one piece of chic, tho I do dislike him (nothing personal, I just root for americans). I love the idea of bringing in the old, which he does so well. On the other hand with Serena I love how she tries to push the envelope. Need I remind you all of the US Open catsuit? Good or bad she takes risks, which is something I think Federer could take note of.
