Oil Slick

shuuemuraoils.JPGGrowing up, there was one beauty rule that was always drilled into my head: stay away from oils. As someone prone to horrible breakouts, I thought greasy liquids were a death sentence for my skin and something I stayed as far away from as possible.

Fast forward to two years ago when I finally got over my fear and first tried the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils. The slippery feel of it on my skin weirded me out, but once I forced myself to stick to it I found that it was unparalleled at removing makeup and helped my skin look better.

Now I use oils for everything. I cleanse off heavy eye makeup with the Shu Uemura Fresh Cleansing Oil (the new limited edition bottles by Manga artist Moyoco Anno are gorgeous btw) and I moisturize with the luxe Sponge Ladi Avokanto. I swear my skin glows and there’s not a zit in sight.

But it’s not just my face that benefits from the deluge — I’ve been experimenting with body oils as well. Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Body Cleansing Oil is fab, although it does take a little bit of time getting used to the lack of lather and how liquid-y it is. I also just started using the new Bamford Organic Nourishing Body Oil on my legs and I swear they’ve never looked healthier. And you won’t end up looking like Gwyneth on The Tonight Show.

I think oils get a bad rap and many women are still too scared to try them out. Are you an oil-phile or do you steer clear of the slippery stuff?

Hi everyone,
Just an unrelated note, this is going to be my last post on Fashionista. I've decided to go full time at my other job and as such I won't be able to guest write for the site anymore.

It's been a blast writing these posts for you and I hope the majority of you enjoyed them. For anyone who would like to continue reading my work, you can find me at DailyMakeover.com.

i love oils! oils are actually amazing for your skin because it puts moisture it is lacking back into it. zits and oily skin come from your skin not having enough moisture so your skin tries to compensate and overproduces, resulting in acne. if you use super moisturizing products, 99% of the time, most skin problems clear up!

i'm going to check this stuff out, thanks for the heads up :)

Oil breaks down oil, so it makes sense... You don't have to use something the doesn't mix with oil and wind up stripping your face.

I'm very oily (albeit less as time goes on) and got hooked on Shu oil ten years ago. I won't use anything else. My face loves it.

Trivia... Lucille Ball used to use it to take off her stage make up!

I have dry skin and although I use a gentle cleanser on my face, I use little coconut or sweet almond oil in place of body lotion and makeup remover. It works better than any lotion/remover I've used in the past.

Twice a week, I put Vitamin E oil on my face before I go to bed...It truly helps brighten up my skin and gives it an awesome glow the next day! No break-outs either! Cheap way to look refreshed :)

We'll miss you Megan... great posts and I liked how you'd respond to reader feedback.

Maybe fashionista can keep us updated with what some of the past writers go on to do?

I love the oils in any kind of cleanser, they leave your skin soft. I should post it in my blog about it as well but I need to try it first! Check out my blog if you have time http://www.katyauk.com. KatyaUK
