Fashion Is Fun

Dogs Dressed as People

Pets-fashion-week-A-dog-a-012.jpgWe really enjoyed the dog-based challenge on season three of Project Runway, when Uli (before she became so one-note that all those patterns started hurting our eyes) also did a leopard print get-up for the pug.

Well, we just found out that in Moscow, they’ve taken it a step further, and have a pet fashion week (wonder if Karl stopped by?).

We used to put a little pumpkin bib on our dog for Halloween when we went out trick or treating, but he didn’t even like that little thing, and spent most of the night trying to wiggle out of it. Are we the only people who find this completely ridiculous? Aren’t dogs cute enough without clothing? And what if your dog or cat’s outfit outshines yours?

It’s all just a little too Guffman for real life.

i do dress up my dog in sweaters and t-shirts when it's cold - you have to do that with little skinny dogs like chi chis and italian greyhounds, not to mention the poor "naked" chinese crested. but to do so solely for the purpose of "fashion" is absolutely ridiculous. hats and goggles on dogs look like torture.

I honestly think it's really sick. Animals are adorable the way they are. Humans can wear fashion because they have a choice, that's what makes it uniquely human. Animals don't have that choice. I'm not like an animal activist but this still seems really gross to me.

our dog (cocker spaniel) wears puffy vests and wool sweaters in the winter. he gets very cold otherwise. and he doesn't wear the boots some dogs have, but they're actually beneficial in the snow because the salt they put on the sidewalks tears up dogs paw pads.

dog halloween costumes are the best! my dog was a princess this year and hated the costume so much that it actually made it way cuter

This pup looks so cute.

We have a yearly local dog show to raise funds for the local adoption center (good cause) and best matched costumes wins the prize.

I'm an avid fund raiser and this is as good idea as any.

To keep the pups warms is another acceptable reason.
But if their is some rejection on the part of the little guy or girl, then I say no go.

Just to please ourselves with attention or praise is not worthy of torture, but I have the same attitude towards fashion vs function.

Totally agree. I feel so sorry for the dogs, I know they feel humiliated. It's one thing if it is snowing outside and the pup needs a walk, but clearly that's not why.

At the beach one day there were a couple of chihuahuas dressed in cat-eye sunglasses and berets --one in pink, the other in black, in case you're curious. It's unlikely they felt "cool" dressed that way.

When I see pets dressed as people, I want to say: "Get a baby and play with it! Leave pets alone!" Noah Lieske

Great get up. Just missing sunglasses. What say others?

I think that's adorable! But only for fun.
