Sleeping Beauties

beautyzzzpillowcase.JPGI am incredibly particular about my pillows. I would prefer to pack them and take them with me everywhere I go. But this is obviously not the most convenient situation, especially with the whole $15 per checked bag situation.

But I’ve never really thought much about my pillowcase, other than to make sure it looks nice on my bed. Until now, that is.

Of course, I’ve heard of women who sleep with their hair set in rollers and wrapped in a silk scarf to keep it from frizzing up. It seems very old school and kind of glam, but nothing I’d ever bother to take the time to do. What I didn’t realize was that my choice of pillowcase can actually affect the way our faces looks too.

Come early fall, StudioBeautyMix Fred Segal will be selling the Beautyzzz (for about $47), a pillowcase that is designed to maximize your sleepy time so you wake up all refreshed and non-puffy. Turns out that the cotton versions that most of us sleep on are super breathable, but can also dry us out because they absorb water. It’s made from natural silk and is also allergen, dye, chemical and pesticide-free - which is apparently not the case with many others on the market.

We also like the idea of “maintaining the natural contours of the face” because that’s why we use all our myriad creams, lotions and potions anyway. So if this helps that process, we say bring it on.

The Beautyzzz is supposed to be more breathable than other non-cotton versions. And sounds pretty comfy.

And we’ll try anything once to help battle the insomnia that often keeps us looking less than our best in the morning.

Thank you for a) writing a book b) boring me to tears and c) managing to post something that barely skirts on beauty and completely misses a fashion palette.

Nice job! ...

47 bucks for A SILK PILLOW CASE. Did I read that right!? How about you go buy a piece of raw silk and wrap it around your pillow? Such marketing BS. Sorry.

You are way better off with a Save My Face pillowette. It is a double crescent shaped pillow covered with a 400 thread count cotton sateen. Your face never hits the bed.
It actually has helped my night products work better since I am a stomach sleeper and it is small enough that you can take it everywhere. It will fit in a carry on.
It costs just a bit more than the case you are mentioning.

So many of the posts lately read like advertorials. I understand, times are tough, but I'm just saying.

Well, I'll at least cop for these pillowcases-- as an African-American woman, if you want to grow out your hair/protect extensions/not have any breakage, it's essential to have satin or silk pillowcases. I didn't spend nearly $50 on mine, but I do consider these a must!

"the cotton versions that most of us sleep on are super breathable, but can also dry us out because they absorb water" - seriously? I don't think I've ever met anyone who complained that they had dry skin because their pillow case had soaked it all up.

Anything to help with the frizzy hair and if it prevents premature aging. I would buy one.
