That lady with the electric blue blouse and colorful tote was dressed way better.

If the girl on the right catches your eye as having a good style.. then jesus, i'm just not meant for the fashion world, because i think that outfit is HORRIBLE. and i would never look twice.
to be honest.. i think you guys are trying to make something out of nothing because you couldn't find anyone else.

Wow. I honestly can't believe how nasty you all are. I'm disgusted. They look cute. The whole point is to show real young women on the street. This isn't the pages of Vogue, this isn't the pages of Milan.
And seriously, get over the smoking thing. People smoke. In the same way the fashion media has subconsciously compelled all of you to be crude, self-indulgent, judgmental women who think they're the second-coming of Kate Moss, the general media promotes smoking in a subtle way. Furthermore, show me ONE person on here (without lying) who doesn't so much as smoke a social cigg. every so often when drinking. That is just as bad.
And, to these young girls in these pictures who are probably hating themselves after reading such awful words, I think you too look lovely. You could walk down the streets of Paris, where I live, and fit in just fine...probably very unlike these "ugly Americans" who felt the need to bring you down.

From #30, "Furthermore, show me ONE person on here (without lying) who doesn't so much as smoke a social cigg. every so often when drinking."
I have never touched a cigarette in my entire life, not even ONE. Your face/teeth/breath/organs all get fucked up. It's a slow suicide.

I tend to generally agree with most of the above commenters, but I do think the girl on the left mixed her patterns just right. While the yellow shoes aren't the most fashion-forward, a lot of people wear out-of-date shit like that to be funny or ironic. Think mullets, mustaches, and trucker hats.
I think the point with these posts is to showcase real women in New York who have their own sense of personal style. Most of that probably doesn't come from Bergdorf's and would not be photographed for a fashion magazine. But, I WOULD like to see a preppy girl featured one of these days...not just hipsters.

Guest #30.
-I don't smoke (although social smoking is not as bad as chain smoking, similar to be an alcoholic is worse than a glass of wine with dinner)
-I'm not American
-I'm not ugly.
-I do not think I am the 'second coming of Kate Moss' nor do I want to be.
-sometimes I am crude, self-indulgent and judgmental, obviously you are as well.
I think they look lovely too and could walk down the streets of Paris and fit in just fine, BUT no one would ask to photograph them for being stylish.
-And lots of Americans know about Dirk Bikkenberg, don't be stupid.
-Oh and what are the pages of Milan?

Come on Guys, back off. What are you doing? Don't you have anything else to do? Two nice girls out for a break in the sun and you guys are just trashing them. They are both cute girls. Leave them alone to be able to enjoy the fact that they were photographed by Fashionista.

I think that the streetwalker was relating to the girls' attitude, in addition to their clothes and accessories. An air of happiness with self and confidence can make the most boring outfit look cool. But the cig is definitely NOT COOL. I'm sure she won't think she looks cool when she's in her 40s and has emphysema and/or lung cancer. And the stench! eeewww!

I agree with #41...my whole point is just let these girls enjoy the fact that someone complimented them. You know that feeling you get when someone tells you how lovely you look? What if 40 strangers then jumped in and stole that moment from you!
And, for the record, #39, I don't smoke..the difference is that I know it's gross, but I also know it's a reality of life.
#38: You would be surprised at how many people don't know Bikkemberg and how scarcely available they are in even NY.

Wow...there are def some passionate people on here! Anyway, I think the girls look cute. Nothing revolutionary, but the whole point of this exercise is to show how real women dress for their days.
@38: I don't think #30 was actually saying you are ugly. "Ugly American" is a sociological and economics term. It's an term that refers to the stereotype of Americans that they are ethnocentric and tend to have arrogant and uncultured views of the world around them.

Here is the StreetWalker Pledge, which I encourage you to consider:
I hereby vow that if Fashionista EVER approaches me to take a picture for StreetWalker, and I am not wear an ensemble that sings, then I'm going to demurr getting my picture taken.
I'm slummy so often that I cannot fault these girls for their not especailly exiciting outfits.
Next time, just. say. no.

I don't want to be hateful, so I won't.
Waste of time. Anyone who smokes doesn't care about their life. Anyone who doesn't care about their life doesn't deserve to have any moment of it examined.
And that scarf is on every street corner... as ubiquitous as dirt, puke and trash. Which begs the question: where is the trashionista website? That is where they belong.

Bitches like you make me want to ignore fashion and New York and go to a convent. You people are hateful, negative bitches. Cigarettes are a slow suicide? No kidding, Truth Campaign. High heels are also murder on your posture, just as worrying so much about how you look and being a hateful, bitter, negative bitch is bad for your lifespan. "People who don't care for their life don't deserve to have it examined." Oh, aren't you just DEEP and INSIGHTFUL. Can I ask what you're doing on Fashionista, as opposed to saving the world and curing cancer with your valuable time? Fuck you. I seriously would not mind if all of you died tomorrow. Hopefully, run over by a truck driver who was smoking a fucking cigarette.

haha okay i may not be as passionate about it as comment 58 was, but... c'mon, ridiculing someone for smoking a cig? i'm not saying i agree with it, however it's their choice so leave it be. and secondly, as the term streetwalker implies, this is real people on the street... it's not necessairly supposed to be the most fashion-forward. although it is not my particular taste, i think the girls look/are cute.
a side note: i would like to see a broader range of styles in the streetwalker section; there are people who are not "hipsters" (not sure what the right word is?) out there who are wearing interesting outfits as well.

hahahaha fashionista your commenters are ridiculous. always a great read. keep up the good work!! why even bother doing a streetwalker segment, just let the general public argue all over your site and you have an interesting enough blog. (but you should probably just keep the streetwalker segment anyway...)

I can't believe some reader would tell us not to post negative comments. If we don't agree, we have every right to say so. Like another reader posted earlier, one negative comment could be attributed to difference in personal taste, but 50 negative comments is very telling that maybe that fashion/style site should post more inspiring photos. I'm not hating on the girls in the photo, but I have no idea why their photo would be taken for style inspiration.

wtf fashionista?
these outfits are below average and very questionable? there is absolutely nothing appealing about these outfits at all.
Omfg those yellow and mustard trainers??? fugly!
i AM a fan of mixing prints but those prints together DONT work. its like mixing edgy stripey sailor look with an old nanna scarf. NUP no good...
