Would You Wear

Would You Wear Sneaker Wedges?

Picture 6.jpgCan you tell we’re in a very shoe state of mind here at the office today? We can’t stop!

While Abby’s contemplating Birks, I’m feeling a very different shoe: the Adidas’ SLVR 106.

The mesh wedge sneaker has been around for a few months and getting a fair amount of attention. Both Queen Michelle of Kingdom of Style and Elizabeth of White Lightning have written them up. But even these two fashion forward ladies are skeptical in their admiration.

Personally, I love them. They’re fun and a nice combination (I think) of my two different favorite shoe looks - sneakers and heels. The wedge is orange, a color I’m loving right now. And it’s 4 1/2 inches high - perfect for a tiny girl like me. Plus (according to the website) they offer support and as some of us have foot problems, support with a heel could be a major plus.

Ed note from Abby: I fear looking like Victoria Beckham throwing out the first pitch of that Dodgers’ game on her show. But I fully support Amanda giving these a go.

For me, Queen Michelle put it best: “it’s OK to not be pretty, dammit!” Pretty can be boring, and safe, and these are, if nothing else, interesting.

So what say you?

uummmmm..... definitely not in white! maybe if they made a black version i'd consider having some fun with it. although i do think that wedge is a bit too high. 3.5 would be much more comfortable, if the comfort is what they are shooting for here.

so i did run to Adidas on wooster after work and tried on the black pair... they feel pretty good on actually, AND they look way better on foot than in the photo.
they actually look quite fabulous when on. i didn't buy them - i'm still debating if mesh and rubber are worth almost 200 bucks.

i bought a pair of these back on the 90's because in the store they looked fun and quirky. Back at home, however, they looked silly and a little ridiculous. Needless to say, I didn't even where them once.

I saw these on Kingdom of Style too and I loved them. Most people wouldn't like them but then most people have really obvious taste in shoes. It's nice to see shoes that make you work at making them work. So a big, adventurous YES for me. And I'd get them in white.

Absolutely not! I see similar shoes running around the City and I get concerned every time for the sanity of the person wearing them. I must agree with previous posts-- never and white, and by default, always go Dries Van Noten.

see, guest 29, i am always concerned for the sanity of a person choosing to wear boring shoes as opposed to quirky/extravagant/different (from the rest of the sheep)

and i actually much prefer this look to
Dries Van Noten equivalent.

so i guess we all agree to disagree.

Nah, I just don't like them. Maybe I'll warm to them if I see more often. But I doubt it. These days I am old, crotchety and stuck in my ways :)

They're 1/2 off at the store. so I got a black pair for $110. Totally agree, they look much better on than in the pics. The sales girl had them on with skinny black jeans and they looked great. the black pair, doesnt really have the sneaker look anyways.

NO. I work retail and we have something similar but without the full sneaker effect. It's a wedge heel in mesh rubber, black or white, and has two straight glittery straps in front. It's ... interesting?

A coworker commented that he could only imagine it being worn on one of the girls in the Fast and Furious movies, with booty shorts and an extra-small white tank top. Since then we have called them the FastandFuriouses or alternately, the Harajuku shoes.

I don't think so. But I ask myself why not?

I guess I'm more of a sneaker girl, than a heel girl and I couldn't see getting the distance out of these.

But go for it, if it's your style and I'll admire from a far.

Whah! I bought them a couple of months ago in Paris!
I'm not that tall either, but I assure you: my legs have never looked longer!
It's true that they're not easy-shoes, you need a different kind of taste. For example my boyfriend dislikes them (he does have style, just not my style?), but lots of my friends don't agree with him.
Wait and see when I wear them at this years prom!
