War and Peace

hedigrenade.jpgIf you’re looking for something to do in the city over the long weekend, perhaps you should consider a trip to the Michali Fine Art Gallery on the Lower East Side to check out Hedi Ferjani’s exhibit “The Art of War”

Now, of course, Hedi’s not new to the scene having created the masks (recently shot by Steven Meisel) for Erin Fetherston’s show last season and directing the short film for her Target collection. (His mom even worked at couture houses like YSL and Lanvin.) And we hear there’s a W profile in the works.

What’s cool about this exhibit (and what has the fash crowd newly obsessed) is the ironic play between something glamorous and something destructive, as in pretty guns and grenades. But we’ll let you make your own interpretations.

Once you’ve seen the show, head on back here and let’s have our own little web discussion group, because we really miss that about college.

I really don't understand your style of writing. AT ALL. It's like your stories are on crack. They start with one thought, then venture to an introduction of Hedi, then into this "history of Hedi in 20 seconds" and you finalize by giving some stupid comment about your personal life and how you miss web discussions in college.

That..plus the fact that you give shoutouts to your friends on the site, shows how A. Gardner is single-handedly taking down Fashionista.

UGH

I miss college discussions, too, if not only for the fact that people like Guest #4 would never have the courage to share an educated opinion-emphasis on educated-and people could actually share thoughts and ideas about real topics. And yet, with the shield of anonymity, 4 spits out random insults that have me saying, "Bitter, table of one."

Part of what makes this site so great, darling 4, is that the tone is comfortable and conversational. If that's not your style, go start your own blog. When the day arrives (and it will) that you receive nasty anonymous comments, you will realize that taste varies, and perhaps wish that you had taken a classier approach in disagreeing, or better yet, kept it to yourself entirely.

As lovely and eloquent as your own writing style is, I'm sure you'll have success; I mean, what expression in your final thought of UGH. Brilliant, really.

I hope you could follow this without any problems. My apologies for using words that are more than three letters long.

Cheers to Abby, Britt, and the rest of the fashionistas!

xoxo,
Kate Darling

Well, perhaps the title has invoked more war than peace from 4. Say what you need dear 4, but in the end, I hardly think fashionista is attempting to win a Pulitzer. If that was the goal, I'm sure the editors would be up for the challenge and I think they would take a different approach to discussing all things fashion. Ah, but I think the purpose is to relate what's new and newsworthy to savvy fashionistas (clever website name)...and worth a little chat (and when I say chat, I mean the kind you have at a coffee shop not a think tank). So if you are having trouble following the conversation, if it's making you dizzy, then try to work on that. I encourage you to challenge yourself by continuing to read these posts to see if you can bridge the different topics discussed as measure of personal growth. Things aren't always put in neat little consecutive piles for us, lets embrace the free flowing nature of all things. P.S if you really feel that this is horrible, perhaps suggest a way to improve, or recommend things you would like to see. There are ways of communicating that are helpful and other ways that are not...I'm sure you intended to be helpful but it just didn't come across exactly that way in your words (darn, I hate when that happens).

This exhibit is political commentary not a pretty dress in a window. One can't help but read this piece, thanks to the way it's written, without a Valley Girl inflection which I find totally inappropriate. "Hey gal pals! Let's hop into the Miata and go check out the pretty, bedazzled guns!!" Poor taste.

And the idea of combining beauty and barbarism is hardly original. Irony in art is as old as art itself.

Perhaps the issue here is Abby's tone combined with the subject matter. Just a bad match. There is certainly good reason to cover such an exhibit on this site but not in this way. We're dealing here with an artist who has a sincere impact on the fashion world but that is no reason to trivialize his contribution to the serious art community.
