High As a Thigh

prada aw09 thigh high boots.jpgI’ve spent almost three of the past four weeks in California which means I’ve worn pretty much nothing but old Levi cut-offs, white James Perse tees and my red Saltwater sandals.

It’s been wonderful.

But yesterday it was back to reality, which means gearing up for fall, for fashion week, for September issues etc. and while dicking around online, I changed my mind. Now, I want, need, must have a pair of thigh high boots. The problem is a) which pair and b) will anyone make a pair for under $1000 that don’t scream Pretty Woman and then of course c) what do I wear them with?

The thing is, while they were on almost every runway, I half expected them to elude the actual market given the state of the economy, as if fashion would pay attention to a reality other than its own. Sure enough, the boots are everywhere. Ideally, of course, I’d have a spare $1,470 for the Brian Atwoods which I’m tempted to call the originals. And if those didn’t fit over my slightly-larger-than-LSD-thighs I could always go for a flat version from Chloe for $1,235. But I’m barely 5’4” so I’d probably do better in something like these Pradas. In my dreams though, I’m wearing the Louboutin-meets-Catwoman version (though they might me higher than thigh) because I don’t know if the Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte masterpieces are even being made. The only high street ones I’ve spotted are suede, Topshop, and called the Brittany - a sign?

Maybe, but as of this morning they’ve already disappeared. What’s a girl to do?

I've bought some black suede flat-heel over the knee boots in Poland back in 1990 that luckily still fit (they must have been very loose in high school!) and they come back every few years.
If you know you're the type that will still want to wear them 10yrs later, then they are worth the investment.
I still wish I'd gotten the leather ones, too!

I absolutely want the Rodarte pair. TopShop are actually offering a pair that were similar to the Rodarte pair for Fall.
However, of the few that you linked, I love the Prada pair the very best.

Steve Madden had 2-3 versions of the thigh-high boots last winter. Maybe they'll have them this season too? From what I remember, they weren't half bad

These are flat and technically 'over the knee' so not sure how high they go, but they're cute and cheap! http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446229855&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492713843&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474399545537&bmUID=1248322218603&ev19=2:12

Unless you get the "real" (read high end designer) ones, you will look like a hooker. I am short too, so I know.

Guest #8, those are awesome . . .if I were about 4 inches shorter : (
Being 5'8" with disproportionately long legs, the cheaper "over the knee" boots are usually the ones I buy to actually get to my knee. Anyone know of any cute flat OTK boots that are at least 20" in heigh, preferably higher? I've been lusting after the chloe boots that britt linked to, but $1200 is just a little out of my budget

Chanel did them years ago people! They were the runway shoe abt two or three years ago. I was working at Bloomies, and I got them for $400 after they were 50% off plus my employee discount. Not surprisingly no one in Chestnut Hill wanted them. I've been wearing them since then and getting called Catwoman for it, and now all of a sudden they're the cats meow!!! Ahhh trends...

I've been searching for the perfect pair of thigh high boots since Temperley London's Fall 2008 RTW show: http://www.elle.com/Runway/Ready-to-Wear/Fall-2008-Ready-to-Wear/TEMPERLEY-LONDON/TEMPERLEY-LONDON/(view)/0/(imageIndex)/1/(play)/false

I'm still looking for the right pair, but the Louboutins you show might be the ones! I'd wear them just as in the Temperley runway show, especially with dresses. Of course, picking up on your other post, I wouldn't wear them to work. Even lawyers at LA firms can't get away with that ;-)

I cannot afford most regular boots, let alone thigh high ones, but I've been fantasizing about an alternative to the latter ever since the F/W09 collections hit. Its not boot-y, per say, but it's got the thigh high part down pat. Anyway, it goes like this:
1 pair of thigh high/over-the-knee socks + flats and a delicate little charm anklet, worn with shorts and either a really messy bun or a sleek, sleek ponytail.

Annnnnd I die.
