Hilary Duff’s Femme for DKNY

hillary duff femme dkny sartorialist.jpgI’m sad I went on a celebrity/model/actress collaboration rant the other day; I should’ve saved my speech for this.

In February, we mentioned Hilary Duff was designing a line for DKNY (home of Rachel Bilson’s line, too) under the name Femme. The one image, of her in a fringed tee and leather vest wasn’t awful, though wasn’t groundbreaking.

So now, the ad campaign’s out, shot by Scott Schuman naturally, and for the first time, we believe the celebrity wearing the outfit physically designed the outfit.

But really, Scott would never shoot that on the street, Hilary Duff would never wear it (she looks miserable!) and more importantly, the customer interested in purchasing something designed by a former Disney star doesn’t want a cocoon, right?

We’re banking on the fact that it’s just styled to get your attention and the whole line doesn’t actually look like it’s trying to explore some avant-garde aspect of otherwise commercial fashion, because what’s in that picture is not what this flailing industry needs.

I think Hilary actually has a better style than Rachel Bilson. Rachel looks like an ugly vintage store threw up on her. That folk skirt she wore a while back...that was like vomit-inducing. I don't really like the outfit in the ad though, but I'll probably still check out the clothes anyway.

Is it just me, or was she photoshopped about 8 inches taller??

There's nothing groundbreakingly [yes, I know it's not a word] BAD about what she's wearing or the ad. I understand that people associate celebrities with whatever brand they may have had in the past but it's obvious H-Duff has been trying to move past the Disney stage for years now. What she has on in the ad I could see on a number of girls. Her right arm does look a bit stiff but overall, it's a basic, cute ad. I do think it's a bit obvious though to put her in all black to make it appear stylish in order for her to look more adult but again, it's cute.

Hillary Duff never had a chance with me, but I'll add this to my rapidly growing list of reasons to dislike Scott Schuman.

I love Hilary, and i think the other two outfits in the ad that the models are wearing look really nice. As far as celeb lines go this is not one to complain about.

Hello, its not meant for adults, the line is for teenagers and people around 14 to 20. Its not groundbreaking fashion because its childrens clothes. you people are so hypocritical, you go on saying people are trying to dress children like adults, and criticising the milely cyrus elle cover about how she isnt acting her age, and now you want it to be so avant garde and experimental and everything. I dont think so. Get the facts straight before criticising.

photoshop does wonders on her...she looks way thinner and taller...sorry to be such a bitch but it's evident.

and the sart did it for the money, as a photographer he has to do what DKNY told him to.

i think the white shoes make this winter look tacky, it is true that the look needs a little color so i would wear some colorful WINTER cute shoes or maybe some boots...
