“I’m pretty good at the sex. And pretty good at picture taking. That’s about it. Garance is pretty happy. And the hotel-room neighbours are pretty pissed. You can write that; that’s totally fine with me.” —Scott “The Sartorialist” Schuman, in Canada’s Globe and Mail via OMGblog.

don't you think he might be.. uh... joking. or kidding. or being funny generally. esp. because of his referring to it as "the sex" which leads me to think he might be using irony here, given that i'm sure he is good at things other than sex and photography. chill out.

I always imagined Scott Schuman to be a sweet-natured, pensive/quiet, artistic kind of guy. In the interview, he comes off as a bit pretentious and full of himself.
One thing I found really odd is that his talking about sex had NOTHING to do with the question asked! It just came out of nowhere. For someone who claims to be so into pleasing his blog readers... wouldn't he *maybe* have stopped to consider the effect his comments might have? As in, that they may turn off some of his readers?
It doesn't bother me all that much, just makes me think "ugh."

Scott, until you master the Coital Alignment Technique (CAT), you are not good at sex.
Also, can someone send him the Refinery69 flow chart thingy?

The flow chart was spot on.
Mr Schuman must have been ironic or very drunk...

hmm.. he is gross now. I always thought he was ugly/weird looking; but this solidified it. I suppose that is why he opts to take pictures-be behind the scenes? What a tool. And I echo the sentiments of "if you brag you are good in bed then your not." Not to mention, he must have a small penis. Funny, too I always thought he was gay.

double u oh double u, Scott is being taken to the cleaners in this one!
#26 gets the award for gross, ugly, weird, tool, small penis, gay.
No really, I'm happy for his success. That blog has gotten him further than most. It's just unfortunate that he can't do anything about the way he is.
I think he also drives a Porsche.

ah people are such haters. take a chill pill and get yourself a sense of humor. i never perceived the sex comments to be one bit serious.
and to cretin #26, excuse me, did you really just classify all the photographers as "hiding behind their camera ugly/weird douchebags" ??

He's just hungry for some exposure - what's wrong with that?

Answer to nycshoegal. I simply was implying that he was VERY insecure. Maybe my delivery was subtle? The comment was catered to Mr. Schuman. Saying HE hides behind the camera. Read, and understand. I love photographers, just not the ones that are quite full of themselves.

And speculation about whether he's straight or gay is kind of dismaying to me... It is tiring for me to have to reassure people that I do indeed like girls when my sexuality is in question for pretty much no other reason than that I have an interest in fashion.

this is guest number one (and four) retracting my initial sentiments.
i had no idea he was married! not knowing him personally i still can't really judge his motivation but from an outsider's standpoint it definitely doesn't look good. especially considering this interview (after reading it in full)... if he split with his wife (whom he has children with) it is in REEEEEEEEALLY bad taste to brag about his sexual prowess with "the other woman." ew ew ew. in all fairness, the interview doesn't seem that bad if you read it not knowing about the whole wife situation.

Here's a different interview where he talks about wanting to be asked "a dirty question": http://www.eyeweekly.com/blog/torontonotes/article/67139
I agree that it's in bad taste to be talking about your sexual prowess with the woman you left your wife for. I don't know how old his kids are, but he must be aware that one day they'll google him, and ...

His photos are good, but he is an asshole! Those comments were meant to let us know that he is SO not gay. Which means he probably is. Did you see his latest post? It's about him being obsessed with cuffing his APC hard denim jeans. If that is not gay, I don't know what is! (And I love gay men, I have many gay men friends). It's just that he is probably a homophobe (toward himself).

I read the KatieGirls article and found him to be very appealing and charming AND TYPICAL. None of us know what happened with his marriage, hey, she could have been a total bitch or not, I was married once and its wasnt for me but he lasted 20 yrs with her, so that says something, none of us really know what happened with that. As for interviewing someone somewhat drunk, you get what they give and if its an oft colored remark and one that generated some interest then you're flying with it. I love his work, cant wait for his book and really could care less if this guy said he had the biggest schlong in town, he's still good at what he does. Anyone who knows anyone in the industry knows that they're are no boundaries with some of them and if they think there is hasnt been to one of these parties.
