Michelle Obama Cuts Her Hair, A Nation Waits

michelleobamabobhaircut.jpgNow we know many of you, not unlike some of us, are a little over it when it comes to the First Lady and her style choices.

And of course, the work she does is incredibly more important than which Michael Kors sheath she chooses for an appearance. But you can’t ignore the fact that, like it or not, she garners major press every time she makes a move.

Now she’s made perhaps her boldest decision since the Jason Wu Inaugural Ball dress by chopping off her hair into a much shorter bob, which I for one think is incredibly chic.

What interests me more will be whether or not this translates into a national trend like those inspired by Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Aniston, and Farrah Fawcett.

It’s even got the potential to go international.

UPDATE: Okay, so apparently it’s not a cut, just a rather brilliant updo. But we would highly recommend she go for this look on a permanent basis. We love it more now than we did this morning.

Um... maybe it's just me but... it looks like just like a typical first lady-'do. I mean, compare that to Hillary, Barbara Bush, Jackie O... even Princess Diana. It's pretty cookie-cutter in my opinion- not edgy at all.

It's much more versatile... as a Af-Am woman, I can tell you, she's psyched, as maintaining HEALTHY long hair without weaves or extensions is literally an Olympic struggle.

Good for Michelle.... she looks great!

I agree with with #3 and def can hear where #4 is coming from (is that Ivana Trump? Love That! lol) It is a mommy do. Not that anything is wrong with that but I don't really see many ppl under 40 running into a salon with a pic of her and this cut asking for it unless it's styled differently.

For a black woman, that cut is actually not as conventional as you think. Nowadays, it's either Beyonce/weave long or Rihanna/Halle short.

I appreciate this softer look and that she had the kahunas to cut her hair. I hate letting go of some length.

It does look cliche, but Michelle looks good. That's what matters, lol.

I dunno commenter #5. She's a first lady, not Miss Universe. I think the 'do is very elegant and it flatters her more. Also, it's low maintenance = more time for public affairs.

I actually don't think her hair was cut into a bob. I saw footage of the event last night and the back of her hair looked like it was pinned up in a small bun or something like that. Her hair stylist is a genius as well as her makeup artist. They give her hair and makeup looks a lot of versatility. I love this look on her too.

Yeah, People magazine tweeted about this and it is in a bun - it's not cut.

Mrs. Obama has a classic style form the likes of the late Mrs. JFK! The modern spin on updos creates wonderful illusions depending on the angle you look at the hairstyle.

I think Michelle Obama is rocking this updo... somepeople try to pull it off and it doesn't work at all, but she looks nice.
