Sounds like Milk Studios is going to become one of our most-visited locations come September and New York Fashion Week.
WWD reports this morning that MAC, the usual cosmetics sponsor in the tents, is negotiating to sponsor shows at Milk instead.
This is an interesting development as MAC makeup teams typically create looks for more than 60 shows during any given season. And they bring the best key artists in the business with them.
Milk is a great venue and one that has hosted many a fashion event, and show, in the past. It will be interesting to see who jumps ship from the tents and goes with MAC. Will it simply be smaller designers? Or will any of the bigs head to Milk too.
It also leaves a curious opening at the tents in terms of cosmetics sponsorship. The partnership with MAC always made the most sense, as it is the most fashion-forward makeup company out there.
Will we now see a Cover Girl, Maybelline, or Revlon step in to fill the void? They all have recognizable spokespeople but none have the artist teams that MAC does…though they certainly have the cash necessary for the deal.
Stay tuned as the story develops.

I'm just throwing this out there-
MAC just underwent massive layoffs (20-30% of its artistry base) in January, and again last month, so I sincerely hope that the exposure they would get from investing in Fashion Week will lead to profits, and in turn allow them to hire back some very talented and dedicated people. It's hard for me to imagine that a company that can afford this couldn't afford to keep people on. I will always love the products, but more often than not, I miss the pre-corporate Estee Lauder days, when MAC was all about people, not money. There is a way to stay in the black-no pun intended-without screwing people.
