Sobering Thoughts

tarasubkoff.jpgSometimes it takes a little dose of reality to make us appreciate what we’ve got and how lucky we are and boy did we just get some.
We just read very sad news over on The Cut that Imitation of Christ designer Tara Subkoff has been diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. She’s only 36 years old.
They need to operate very soon and some of her friends in the industry and otherwise are pulling together a benefit to help defray costs of all her many specialists and help support her during the recovery period when she won’t be able to work.

They’re looking for donations, either of artwork for the silent auction, or whatever amount you are able to contribute through the Art Production Fund. You can call email staff@artproductionfund.org for more information
We are sending all of our positive energy Tara’s direction. Hope you do the same.

Do you mean a malignant tumor?

im guessing she didnt purchase health insurance…? Its nice to have friends who can essentially help pay off your medical debts…universal health care anyone? at least for catastrophic or life threatening diseases? but that doesnt really fit this forum. Fashionistas in their focus on pursuing the right it brand or image often forget the basic things that alot of others have to struggle with like basic health care instead of attaining the right handbag.

actually #3 no, they don’t meant a malignant one.
A benign tumor is a tumor that lacks all three of the malignant properties of a cancer. A benign tumor doesn’t grow in an unlimited, aggressive manner, does not invade surrounding tissues.
however if it grows inside one’s head it delivers a pressure on the brain and even though disabling, it can be, but not always is, fatal. (my entire family but me is in medicine,so forgive me for this)
and yes, have to agree with #4 – universal health care, hello. all that socialism bullshit is invented by insurance companies who are afraid they won’t be making as much moolah as they are now.
As i said, 90% of my family is doctors and surgeons (in the US) and they see not one thing wrong with universal health care here or anywhere else.
get it together, USA so that we won’t have to throw our friends “benefits” in order to save their lives!

I wish her nothing but a speedy recovery. Perhaps she’ll come out of this being a bit nicer and more appreciative of those around her.

no. 4 please don’t accuse me of not having the right priorities. i just graduated from college and i am sans-healthcare. just because i read a fashion blog doesn’t mean i’m a trust-fund brat.

fashion is poison (lucrecia) revealed several months ago that she has a brain tumor. send positive thoughts her way, any type of tumor/cancer sucks. wish them all the best.

I do feel bad for anyone that has to go through this or any medical problem for that matter. And I am a nurse (RN) so I do know what it entails. But it kind of galls me that this woman needs money? What did she do with all the money she made from her fairly successful clothing lines and her collaboration with Easy Spirit? And her consulting with other labels? Are most of these so called A list art crowd socialites really broke, and their of the moment designer clothing and shoes just a sham? If it is, how sad. And she hangs with people who wouldn’t give us, the “ordinary people”, the time of day! Would DJ Paul Sevigny let me into his Beatrice Inn? I don’t think so. And why doesn’t she have medical insurance? Did she spend all her money on designer shoes and clothes? And what about her parents or the rest of her family? Can’t they help her? I also know she is close with ChIoe Sevigny and many other successful “it girls” of the moment. Can’t they scrape together some money to help their friend? I worry more about the homeless man on my corner who doesn’t know where his next morsel of food will come from. I wouldn’t ever wish this diagnosis on anyone, and I only wish her good luck with her surgery and good health, but I think that whoever is putting this together has a lot of nerve asking people that they would most likely not give the time of day to, for donations. I, for one will not be donating.

Last summer, I had a thirteen-year-old cousin (she was basically like my little sister) who was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor the size of a golf ball. Within 5 days since we found out the news, she endured countless CT scans, two brain surgeries, and was seen by eight specialists. And just like that, after five days, she passed away.
My point is, it doesn’t matter what she’s done with the money she’s made. It doesn’t matter why she doesn’t have the insurance coverage she needs. All that matters is that this is a someone’s life and it can easily be lost. What truly matters is if you’re going to help her or not.

I don’t understand why her trust fund pals don’t just dig into their bank??? I hope its not to raise a huge amount to cover an apt that cost 10 grand a month to live in and luxury spending habbits????

“pulling together a benefit to help defray costs”
WHAT?!
