Fashion Is Fun

Head Games

118629.jpgHeads are so hot right now. This summer, it started with the resurgence of the hat. Over the past few years, we’ve heard people asking, “Why doesn’t anyone wear hats anymore…like men in the fifties…like Humphrey Bogart? It’s so classy!”

Enter Mad Men, to show that yes, those hats were damn classy. Sometimes people just need a little boost to start wearing a new (or new/old) trend. Though currently the look is less business and more casual - it’s not just for company presidents and Hollywood stars.

Then there are the wigs. Lily Allen’s been partying in some pretty loud colors, and we think it’s a great idea. She—or you—can have different colored locks every night of the week. She avoids hair damage and can easily go back to her natural look. It’s a great way to constantly shake things up.

What we’re really hoping to get our hands on now are some gorgeous headpieces, like the ones hairstylist Tomihiro Kono has created. The delicate piece pictured is our favorite (Daphne will be calling, we’re sure). We’ve already been eyeing certain headdresses from the runway, specifically the floral headpieces at Chanel’s spring couture, made by Katsuya Kamo, and of course those Louis Vuitton bunny ears.

We’re thinking one of Kono’s for day and one of Kamo’s for night would be perfect. You sure won’t be able to miss us on the subway.

Tomihiro's pieces are hot. I would love to see anyone show up at the shows with them on.

I collect all sorts of hats. And yes, even the kooky ones. There's this local milliner whose designs are pretty amazing. Too bad, the shop's keeping that person's identity a secret.

I read this quote from Johnny Depp in the Guardian about playing John Dillinger for Public Enemies, and I love it:
"This one, I did for the hat. I'd studied all the great gangster actors, Cagney and Bogart, and they always had the hat just perfect. Once the hat was in place for me, everything fell in with it."

So true!
