Adventures in Copyright: Repeat Offender

kenleymcqueenadvincopyright_edited-1.jpgKenley Collins may have just gotten out of a two day stint in prison for throwing a cat at her boyfriend, but we think she should be sent back for blatant theft of Alexander McQueen’s genius. AGAIN.

After famously ripping off an A/W 2008 McQueen dress for her final collection on Project Runway, Kenley’s at it again, this time for her eponymous line.

She says it was inspired by her post-jail freedom. Right.
Kenley’s excuse on PR was that she had never seen the McQueen dress before, but after that fiasco we know she’s seen every last piece of that collection, and we’re shocked that she would dare to copy another dress from it.

Nina Garcia would not approve.

Ugh, ugh, ugh! This is so wrong. Once, fine, we'll let it slide. But again! Kenley Penley, it's time to find a new career.

Her constant pleading of ignorance of other designer's looks is pathetic and is the primary reason why she shouldn't be a designer.

she's probably going to come out with another lame excuse, you'd think that as a designer she would realize that knowing other designers' collections is also a part of your job.

gtfo kenley and your tug boat!

I just really dislike anyone who throws their cats around.

the dresses are very different, the only thing they have in common is the shade of blue and the white netting but the silhouette, length, embellishments and shape are completely different. Sorry Fashionista

As a law school grad who specialized in intellectual property law for the fashion industry (and lifelong fashion enthusiast), this really bothers me. If people would put as much energy into creating original designs as they do defending their imitations, the fashion world would benefit immensely.

the funniest part of all of this is that I was thinking... What ever happened to Kenley? Why wasn't she on PR's All star competition last week? last night.

Oh man, still love her though.. that fiery competitive psycho :)

If that dress was coming from anyone else i would say that its not reall a copy, but coming from kenley i definetly blame her.

She also claimed she's never seen BALENCIAGA dress when she copied it on the show. Apparently, she's in the fashion business but never pick up a fashion magazine. I'm just wondering does she know who's Anna Wintour ???

Anyone who would date her deserves to have a cat thrown at them.

Just kidding, that's terrible and awfully strange.

It isn't even decent to look at. McQueen's shoulder draping is jaw-dropping and elegant, while Kenley's heart-shaped bustier is extremely dull and the hemline is neither here nor there.

It's disgusting enough to plagiarize and even more so to do a hideous spin. Or maybe it's a good thing, insuring no one will buy an ugly rip-off.

that mcqueen dress! the stuff dreams are made of.
kenley really should know better though. i mean, if she's so set on copying people, then she should atleast find a more creative way to do it. its unfortunate, because i do think she is talented. a bit crazy though.

That dress is a blatant copy of McQueen. I have to admit the rest of the pieces aren't that bad. Nothing great though that makes her stand out from the thousands of other so-called designers.

Sorry, fashionista, it's not the same dress, not a copycat. Kenley's dress looks like any run of the mill beauty pageant outfit (I should know) from a certain era. But as someone who likes the era she's influenced by, she doesn't really do it for me.

as a designer myself, she really disgusts me. we've all been inspired by our favourite designers. i know i look at comme des garcons and junya watanabe and can gush all day. if i've ever been inspired to do a certain design as a result of my gushing, i make sure it was INSPIRED by, not a copy of. in other words, someone should not look at "my" design and think of another designer.

"kenley"'s designs are obviously not her own, and she disgusts me even more because she would not even admit it. her blatent copy of the balenciaga dress complete with floral prints was enough for me to cross her off of my list.

there are tons of copycats out there who call themselves designers. the ability to sew does not make one a designer.

kenley is just a copycat who put a few copies of different designers on her project runway fashion show, had the cheek to deny ever knowing it, and then now she's done it again.

fail. i would be embarrassed.

Boodle, you're high if you don't think that's a copy. First of all way to drop that you're a pageant girl, like anyone cares, but seriously c'mon Helen Keller could see that's a rip off, and not a very good one.
Kenley annoyed the hell out of me, with her irritating way of speaking and her chunky frame squished into too tight vintage, ugh let's hope the girl just.goes.away. For good this time.

Okay, I hate that this bitch always claims ignorance of fashion as a fashion designer when she herself openly admits to "trying to sneak into the tents at Bryant Park" and being a lifelong fashion enthusiast. She even admits to "reading WWD and Style.com" daily when she "worked in the business": http://www.fancast.com/blogs/project-runway/project-runway-roundup-kenley-aufed-doesnt-like-how-the-press-and-producers-treated-her/

Does she expect us to believe that she just abruptly forgot about fashion the minute she joined Project Runway?
