Boot and Rally

cynthiavincentboot.jpgSeeing as September is just around the corner, I have now commenced my annual hunt for the perfect boot. Every year, it’s the same old story. There are a million pairs that I love…until I try them on. This cycle goes on and on until I realize I want a pair that’s no longer available in my size.

I’m making this the year such madness ends.

I think my problem is due partially to the fact that I’m insanely picky when I’m about to drop that much money (usually a good thing) and also that I know I’m literally going to wear them every day. I may love my shoe collection, but in reality I’m very much a creature of habit.

Seeing as I’m on a tight budget this year, I’m not sure I’ll be purchasing as many options as I’d like to. So I’m thinking an ankle boot may be the way to go. I’m currently obsessing over the zipper detail on this Cynthia Vincent pair. I always like to toughen up my look just a bit when the temps drop, and these seem to do just that. Here’s hoping they look as good on as I’m expecting.

Have you all made your fall boot purchases yet?

I'm facing the same dilemma, although I just interviewed Monica Botkier and she has some really great options - and at very reasonable prices too! Of course, I'm really in love with this amazing OTK pair I tried on at Barbara Bui the other day...sigh.

I understand what you mean on being indecisive to the point that when you finally make up your mind you can't have what you want. Wait...am I talking about shopping or my personal life?!!

i happen to be an average-sized girl with above-average width calves, so boot shopping usually turns into a frustrating experience leaving me envious and unsatisfied...hopefully that ends this year with this fab pair of OTK boots custom-made for all sizes

http://www.duoboots.com/products/boots/detail/calf_fitted_boots_contemporary/celano/239/colour/1-black_leather/

a little pricey, but nothing beats a good pair of boots that will see you through a whole season.

I know what you mean about finding the "perfect" boot and being insanely picky! Especially when it comes to ankle boots I feel like it has to be the perfect heel, the perfect height and the perfect width (as in loose around the ankle) This is where my pickiness prevents me from liking these... I think they'll be too tight fitting to the ankle for them to look current. They'd have to go up at the same width as wear they meet the heel for me. Madison Harding has the only "perfect" pair I've seen yet this seaon.. the shape is PERFECT and there are tons of Chloe/Opening Ceremony-esc buckles to boot! (no pun intended)

I face the same challenge every year. The problem is that I like so many of them, but can afford just one. What's a girl to do?

Those are really beautiful. I like the hidden platform and the shape of the toe. Unfortunately I live in upstate New York and for about two months in the dead of winter the only boots I can possibly wear are my trusty LL Beans :/

cute choice.

Bought a pair of McQueen Thigh High Boots that I'm so excited about. Not excited enough to wear immediately, but you know, am almost looking fwd to fall. How many pairs do y'all get in a season? Is 2 too indulgent? once every year?

I really like these Tory Burch boots with straps that wrap around. I do not have an extra $600 bucks for boots however so it's a good thing I already have boots in pretty much evrry style and color I can imagine. I even have a pair of over the knee leather boots that belonged to my mother from 1980. They are really awesome and perfect. So no new boots for me this season.

I wish I had gotten these boots (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7479967.html) in black last fall before they sold out everywhere in my size. I searched high and low for an affordable knee high, black leather, flat (or nearly flat) heeled pair that was loose enough in the calf to pull over skinny jeans but not so slouchy that they bunch up/fall down and not too tight in the toe. I ended up not getting anything. I NEED a pair this year so I guess I should start looking now.

I couldn't wear the heeled-boots, far too painful.
I was just on a boot-hunt last week, before the great ones were gone (I'm not referring to men here, they're not as valuable ;)). Anyway, I've been praying for these heavenly Chloe's ever since.

#12 and 13, I am a South FL girl too, and I am DYING for OTK boots but I am pretty sure even on the coldest day I would have to pair them with a bikini in order to not die of heat stroke. I agree with #13 that ankle booties are the only way to go.

i totally agree with the ankle boot option. I have larger calves, so knee highs have never been available large enough (i also happen to think they are unflattering and i like showing off my legwear). The OTK options available this season seem too trendy - when i am going to drop 300 on something i want to be able to wear it for years. Last fall i finally bought a perfect pair- and i can't wait to break them out this fall!

While I wasn't planning on buying any boots for the fall season, I came across the most amazing pair of midnight blue suede Lanvin boots at Loehmann's for about 85% off and I couldn't pass them up. I am dying over almost all the OTK boots I've seen but the price points of the ones I adore are way too high. Last year I bought a pair of Pour La Victoires that come just above the knee and I wore them slouchy. This year I'll just pull them up to satisfy my trend cravings. Makes me excited for the colder weather!

I too have had such boot problems in the past. The problem is, you need more than one boot, if you can do it. You need an ankle boot that stops just short of the ankle, you need one that does not hug the ankle, and you need one like the one that is pictured. I figured that out last year, and now I have several perfect boots that I rotate, depending ona the proportions of the clothing I am wearing. Sometimes, a higher shaft ankle boot just does not work with, say, a skirt that hits at or slightly below the knee. And then there is the platform vs. no platform, peep toe platform vs non-platform peep toe. It can go on and on. And then there is the high boot- tighter around the leg, or slouchy, flat or heeled, stilleto heel or chunky. And forget about the OTK ones, they only look good on models. I kind of think they are impractical. But, if you want just one boot that you will love forever and never goes out of style, check out the Rick Owens ankle boot. They are super comfortable and you will look effortlessly cool in them.

Oh, I kind of long for the days when fall came and my mom would take me for new school shoes and that was it. Why is it so complicated now?

I love vintage boots because they're so unique - and it's amazing how on trend boots from years past can be. I hesitate to spend a small fortune on boots anymore, after buying a fabulous pair of McQueens that had the slipperiest soles ever and falling terribly. Now I'm afraid to wear them so they sit in my closet! So sad!

here's the link to the Rick Owens boots- they will last forever, so if you do a cost per wear analysis, you can rationalize the expenditure.

ok, i'm going to come out as crazy but i've jest received a sergio rossi boot as a present from my friends. however, it's black and well... plain-ish. I mean it would as well as been Nine West, you wouldn't have guessed. So, i'm thinking about returning and getting something else. i've just spotted an amazing Yves Saint Laurent but it's really too high and I don't generally live in those kinds of expensive boots to get an extremely high heeled pair. I adore Bottega Veneta and Chloe's lace up ankle boots suede but i couldn't find them at the store. So I'm kind of torn in between another Sergio and a Tod's one (i know, but it IS comfortable.) So, if you have any suggestions... (chloe's over the knee boots are superb but i'm far too petite to carry them. i like them only in the tall girls.)
