Feathers Trickle Down

siri ann d.jpgThere were a few feathers in February, mostly of the rock n’ roll variety.

Black and brown ones peppered Ann Sofie Back’s collection while William Rast decorated his punky cowboy jeans with white. They were used best in Ann Demeulemeester’s elaborate headdresses. Meanwhile, they’ve translated rather funny for fall.

We embrace feathers in general - they’re both sexy and we imagine comfortable. But the idea’s not being executed properly off the runway. Why, for example, is this Haute Hippie long vest made in bubble gum pink? The woman who will spend $695 on an over-sized boa doesn’t want it in pink. This Cavalli top, though just printed with feathers, looks like a pair of massive wings. And this beaded, feathered hair piece from Urban Outfitters would make Ann weep.

If we want to wear feathers this fall, and we do, should we be starting our most elaborate DIY yet, or have you seen some more promising feathered accessories?

ah that pink vest is horrendous! Although I saw a really well done Haute Hippie black feathered mini skirt at Bergdorf's about a month ago. The only thing was, it was shown on the mannequin as a high waisted skirt, which I loved, but in reality they produced it to be worn around the hips, which didn't really look that good on me.

Though this could probably be an easy DIY for less $, I loved this j.crew headband. It juxtaposes falls feathers with a very preppy Blair-esque style, which made me swoon

I'm definitely going to rock some sort of black feather head piece thingy at the September shows. Maybe even braid it into my hair.

I personally love that Cavalli top, but I agree that the pink thing is awful. She looks like Big Bird's girlfriend. I think a great way to do feathers is on shoes; Vanity Fair just featured two great pairs, by Roger Vivier and Givenchy(p.178).

The Urban feather thing is more akin to the what Jennifer Jason Leigh rocked in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Hopefully it would inspire Ann D to rent a silly movie rather than to cry...

I like the Roberto Cavalli top. It's soft and light. I like feathers as an accessory but it is hard to pull just right.

I started wearing feathers in my hair last fall. I DIY'd some headbands with feathers that were a really great accessory. I also made some peacock feather barrettes and got a great black feather headband at H&M that was definitely a conversation piece. I think that when done in a tasteful way and mixed with more classic pieces, the look is very cool

that feathered vest is one ugly excuse for a piece of clothing. WHO would wear that and feel fabulous?! I had about 5 hot pink feather boas that I used to play dress up with when I was about 6. Looks like they found my old stash and made a vest out of it.

I've been building a floor-length headdress, Sioux-style, out of the feathers I've plucked out of the egrets I've been shooting in the wetlands behind my house all summer.

And 10, William Rast is my uncle.

I've seen a great feather belt in Zara - surprised to find it there but I'm now expecting to see winter coats belted up with feather accessories.

I love feathers so it can only be a good thing.

With love from Disco Nap London

I love feathers, but i didn't really care for any of these.

The other day i wore a nice little bit of coloured dollar store feathers in my hair and played a tambourine, then started chanting.
I'm not sure how tasteful that would be in most circles but none of my friends seemed offended.
Then i started singing Disney Pocahontas songs in Dutch. It was beautiful.

Peter does that mean you are related to Justin Timberlake?
Do you own anything he touched?
... Can I have it?
