“I think my biggest influence and inspiration would be Coco Chanel because just, like, the cuts and the fabrics and everything are so, like, my personal style. And so it’s so, like, exciting to see all of her work and how she started with hats, and when I was young I started designing, like, sketches of perfume bottles. I was just attracted to design in general and so then as I got a little bit older it, like, went, like, all the way toward fashion.” —Jazmin Whitley — designer of the line Li Cari, star of MTV’s House of Jazmin, and apparent successor to the aspiring fashion designer title left when Lauren Conrad became a NY Times Bestselling Author — on her inspirations. Poor Coco. She's had a rough two days. If she could rise from the dead and tell Perez and Valley Girl here to fuck off, I think she would.
Wow, I've been on kind of a bitchy streak here, huh? (I got really angry at Perez yesterday.) I'll work on getting some this weekend, and hopefully be back to Pollyanna on Monday. Kidding (sort of). :)

Kate, I was thinking the exact same thing about poor Coco. She's likely spun quite a few times this week, poor dear.

I say good for her for being able to get her brand out there and follow her dream. I think it's refreshing to see someone go out there and do something to achieve their dream. Way more productive than whining about someone else's success on the internet..... I've never heard of the girl and I'm not a fan of her designs, but I wish her the best of luck! Hopefully in time she will mature and so will her line.

so in the article, she says "I studied with a personal [instructor], like one on one, who coached me on fashion and styling. I also work with my grandmom. So I took classes in Brazil and in Italy. "
can you really get someone to coach you on fashion and styling and have that be considered schooling? or is she the next hooked up teen designer like kira plastina?

That was quite incoherent. All I got from it was she designed perfume bottles.
Well done!

All you people are so condescending, looking down on people like Her. You all act like you are fashion critics and that you are just the epitomization of fashion and everything. Saying little quips like you actually know coco and her attitude towards everything. FYI you know knothong about her nor do I so making comments like that is just annoying. Don't discount people's talent just because they may fall into a particular subset. So she may be a little constrained in hervocabulary, but that doesn't mean that she is a bad designer or shouldn't be taken seriously. I bet that if your Alexander wangs said that they started designing by drawing perfume bottles you would all be swooning and praising his young ambition. To e a fashion designer you don't have to be a kookyperson who dresses in hobo chic clothes and talk in a poetic manner or look like a person photographed for the sartorialist. I suspect a hint of jealousy.
