Man Pants

bonobosturqs.jpgOne of the first things that crosses my mind when I see Brad Pitt or George Clooney is “Those guys sure know how to wear a pair of pants.” Seriously.

Some girls look to the hands but I guess you could say I’m a pants girl. I love a man in nicely fit pair. But of course most people aren’t operating on Clooney/Pitt budgets or getting custom fit by Tom Ford. At least not my friends.

So when I noticed what I thought to be a rather perfect pair on a guy friend recently, I was expecting to hear that they were super expensive. But no, he tells me. They’re this newish line Bonobos. The fit was great, without being too high fashion for some of the boys I know. And the butt, very nice.

They’ve got cords, twill, pinwale, wool and seersucker with prices from $98-$188. Plus there are shorts and a just launched swim line (retailing for $58.) And there’s color—which has been known to scare off some unadventurous males.

Embrace it, gentlemen, embrace it. In the form of a good pair of pants.

Ummm, why are you promoting this? How is this relevant at all? Where you paid to write this or is it a friend of yours or something?

ew why are all your commenters SO mean?!?! who cares?! it's pants! It's fashion related obviously. thank you for this post, i am seriously going to analyze this website, but being a male of such skinny proportions, baggy pants just make me look horrific. but it's worth looking at!

i know, sort of random that you commented on the fit of a friend's pair of pants and then the website for these pants is all about how they're "the best fitting pants?" very weird. also just personal preference but they are really ugly pants. what's so hard about going to the tailor?

Well, let's see, companies that make pants are a part of fashion industry, when last I checked. This is a fairly new line that I recently became aware when I saw a pair on a friend. Men do read this site, as do women who might be interested. So I wrote about the line. Yes, I noticed the fit. It's something I pay attention to when I look at clothing. Don't think that's very weird at all considering I work in fashion. End of story. xxAbby

I seriously am so sick of all the NEGATIVITY... it's like people come on here because they are having a bad day and just pick at anything and they are SO unbelievable RUDE.

once again, loud and clear... if you don't like it then don't come back!!!!!

now, in response to Abby: I agree with the well fitting pants theory, and these look great - but the colors are a little crazy.

Thanks Abby! There are indeed men who read this site.
I'll look those up... I'm always looking for more color.

Seconded, #8.

I don't know about other females on here, but I buy/suggest 90-100% of my fiance's wardrobe because he hates spending money on clothes. I'm always on the lookout for reasonably priced men's pants that fit nicely.

Hi, I'm a guy. I don't read this blog regularly. My gf usually pre-approves my clothes purchases. She reads this blog.

I've got one pair of bonobos. Seriously, great pants. Why? They fit well and they're comfortable. They're also way cheaper than anything else my gf and I looked at in stores. Wool pants from Hugo Boss are like 300 bones, and they're pretty lackluster.

I'm not trying to uber promote this or anything, but the negative comments at the top really require an informed response...

-Mark

PS. Also, in response to #3, nothing wrong with a tailor... but when my new (and now former) tailor effed up my first pair of bonobos the guys sent me a replacement pair for free.

There was one negative comment (unless you count the negativity directed toward that commenter). @2 "All" the commenters are not "so mean." But then, you are not the first person to make sweeping statements about Fashionista's commenters.

P.S. I'm not #1, I just felt compelled to say that. Because I'm an occasional commenter, and I'm not mean. And there actually is frequently a lot of love for Fashionista and fashion in general in this site's comments sections. And usually the "mean" people get struck down pretty hard and fast.

i have invested in several pair of bonobos and i can assure you that these pants are "the real deal." like #2, i am pretty slim and don't have a ton of padding on the backside and i must say that bonobos are a great, great fit. and, further, bonobos customer service makes many other online retailers pale in comparison. i give bonobos a big thumbs up!

Just in case anyone else needed another vote of confidence for these pants...after I bought my first pair of Bonobos, I pretty much decided I'd never buy another brand of pants. They fit THAT well. I now I own 5 pairs.

Oh, and their customer service is ridiculously good. When a pair of wool pants I had bought started to pill after about 6 months, they replaced them with another pair at no charge (not even shipping). I would not hesitate in recommending these pants (actually this company) to anybody.

Great pants. I own over 6 pairs of Bonobos. Fit and fabric is always top of the line. However, my first 2 seemed to fit differently and there were maybe some quality issues -- stitching etc. Seems like they've fixed both issues because my last 4 are perfect. Fit is consistent and still great. I get compliments on my pants all the time now - girls and guys.

The best gauge for irrelevance? Whether you feel compelled to sit on the sidelines and chuck tomatoes all day. At least come up with something witty, or interesting, you effing loser.

Just one more vote for "boys who wear clothes that fit." My bf wears his jeans and t-shirts just right: slim enough that you can see how great his body is (especially his shoulders and ass), but not tight. Sigh.

Can't see him wearing those bright blue ones though.

Dear Jean Voltaire,

If only you knew the things I DON'T say every single day. Sometimes I just have to let it (and by it, I mean a very little bit) out...Ah, sometimes you might find me boring, but I can handle that :) We love reading your comments. Keep 'em coming.

As a formerly skeptical professional mam looking to spice up my biz casual, I gave Bonobos a try. I absolutely love them! I now have three pair and they're my go-to pants for both work and fun. So comfortable, great cut that accentuates an athletic build, and non-boring styles. Also, silk-lined pockets!

This guy I work with sometimes was raving about this store. I felt so out-of-the-loop for not knowing. Now I shall pass this information on to my cute friend who looks cute in anything but occasionally needs a point in the right direction.

Love the post about guys clothes! I've been itching to buy some new pants for my bf, since he thinks spending over $50 on anything is practically sacrilegious. Wish I could order some of these for him, but they seem to be fit for longer leaner types, and my bf is an ex soccer player, with the butt/thighs to match. If you happen to run across any pants that might fit that bodytype, please post them. Keep up the good work girls!

These are very unisex. Ladies and gents can wear them! Many of the pants and shorts look like Lilly Pulizter.

So ladies, figure out what size you wear!
