Mid-Day Snack

agyness deyn for anna sui.jpgABC’s: Agyness Deyn’s the face of Anna Sui’s AW09 cosmetics campaign. You can buy the makeup and Sui’s new line of hair products at her Soho store, though we’d avoid whatever made Agy’s hair look like that. {BeautyCounter}

More to Love: More facts on Fashion’s Night Out, including this scary tidbit, “one-out-of-10 retail-industry employees [are] out of work.” We’ll bring you the full report on Monday so you can start making a game plan for September 10th. {WSJ}

Now We’re Talking: A few behind the scenes shots of Charlize Theron for J’Adore Dior. It’s the fragrance’s tenth anniversary and these images should put Vogue to shame. {InStyle}

Cintra-Gate: We’re pretty sure the Gray Lady writer isn’t going to put out the fire she started yesterday with her JCPenney piece with these kinds of apologies. Not that we think she really wants to. {The Cut}

Valley of the Dolls: The exhibit of Sharon Tate’s clothes is finally open in LA. Someone please go and tell me about the crowd who shows up. Lovers of fashion meet people who obsess over Manson? Could be an interesting scene. On a totally separate note, thank you for finally redesigning your website, LA Times. So much easier to maneuver. {LA Times}

Catfight: Róisin Murphy says Lady Gaga is a copycat. And you know what they say about pictures… {The Frisky}

Why has it taken Roisin Murphy such a long time to stand up for herself? Those pictures are pretty shocking too. Wonder how Gaga is going to explain herself...

I don't have enough time right now to find the whole article by Cintra Wilson,only reviews with quotes, but really? people are taking such offense to it? she didn't even slam the place. she said the clothes she found in her size were cute but she could do better for the money but there were lots of larger sizes those gals who need 'em.NOT MEAN.anyhoo, I type so badly so I don't have time for all the points I'd like to make but the fact of whether someone is a 2 or a 20 is just an arbitrary number made up by the fashion industry at this point.how do they even have a 0? last I heard that was nothing. if the clothes fit, wear 'em.

Roisin has been my biggest crush since the days of Moloko, she is so incredibly amazing - Gaga can just dream on. But shame on her nonetheless. Get your own style, girl.

I knew she was a copy cat since the first time I seen her. I can't believe no ones seen it before. She is a total biter. I don't understand why so many respectable fashion web sites give in to her bull. Style.com actually had an article with slide show comparing fall couture 09 looks that were "inspired" by her. Lady Gaga just looks like a cheap knock off of copenhagen street style.

Re: ... including this scary tidbit, “one-out-of-10 retail-industry employees [are] out of work.” ...

Retail as we know it is dying. It's because we have an economy that is built on constant consumption, new fashions, new trends forced upon us regardless if they are good or not - the forced creations of new seasons like pre-fall, resort and now I've even heard the term pre-resort! What is that? Just stop.

The forced consumption cycle is not sustainable environmentally, economically or even fashionably. At this point, it's just recycling looks. We're already recycling the 90s and the aughts aren't even over yet. There has to be a fundamental change about quality and creativity, and bringing back quality production to the developed nations instead of mass-producing cheap, forced trends in China, India, etc. on the backs of poor laborers.

/end rant. I'll go over to WSJ now and talk about supply chains or something.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Lady Gaga is not entirely original. Not only is her style not original, but honestly what's original about a popstar singing about fame and sex? I'm glad Roisin called her on her style.
