B for Beauty

What’s In A Name?

whitney-port.jpgWhitney Port, of The Hills and The City, has apparently “designed” a lipstick for Cargo. Of course, I recognize that there is PR value and it’s very lovely that a portion of the profits go to St. Jude’s. But really, I’ve always found these collaborations, if you can even call them that, rather dumb.

I love what Lancôme does in their Pout-à-Porter series with designers like Peter Som and Thakoon. And I can’t wait to see the new Chris Benz shade and find out who won the naming contest! These are literally tied to the runway looks of these designers. In fact, they’re actually used on the models in the show. There’s a context and a point behind the shades.

But I personally could care less when someone like Whitney or Tinsley (that Dior Beauty Ambassador thing still boggles my mind) point at a shade of pink and throws her name on it.

Do you?

You know what i hate? When Eva Longoria, Beyonce, and SJP advertise a do-it-yourself hair color in a tube.

Does anyone in this world believe Eva flips her hair over a kitchen sink and goes away with covering her own grays?

I find that particular fakeness much more irritating that these little pretend-collaborations.

Ditto on the post & double ditto on the comment by nycshoegal

Its all a ploy for more dollars. Sad, but true.

Christ, this is like a post on why you shouldn't kill baby bunnies on the PETA site. I'm lucky I didn't fall asleep somewhere between "Whitney" and "Port".

Why does Whitney look 10 years older in that pic?

I agree.. these things are frustrating. However I can understand why they make so much money. There are so many girls out there who love those typical celebrities, like the girls from the Hills and even if they don't like the shade of lipstick, they are going to feel confident and good buying something with their favorite celebrities name on it, like it will magically make them like them.

I completely agree with the post and with NYCShoeGal.

RR, I think it's because she's wearing way too much foundation.

I agree with NYCShoeGal too. Beyonce is a pet peeve of mine. Her hair looks nice but it's a weave so isn't that a bit deceiving? You don't just grown hair like that. Talk about giving impressionable youth a complex . . .

I think is great. This collaboration is from a lucky girl who is in the fashion industry which is benefitting charity. I think some people are definitely jealous of Whitney's position.
