Would You Wear

Would You Wear a Proper Nightie?

mad men in bed.jpgIn my ramp up to last Sunday’s season premiere of Mad Men, I re-watched the first season. Of course, the ladies’ outfits (and Don, duh) made me swoon just as much as the first time around. But something else stood out that I hadn’t paid much attention to initially—the sleepwear. Most specifically Betty Draper’s short, flowy, chiffon nighties.

Now, I still pretty much look like a college girl in a dorm when I crawl into bed at night, but I’m seriously considering stocking up on a few of these romantic numbers. Don’t you love how Betty lounges around all day in one sometimes? (She evens shoots at neighbors pigeons!) And they do look incredibly comfortable, even for hot summer nights. Plus, the little robes that go over them? Love!

I found some great ones on Etsy here and here that I’m loving lots.

What about you? Would you wear proper lady pajamas a la Betty?

Yes! I love super cute nighties. I first got one when I moved in with my boyfriend, just sort of as a joke, but now I love them and pick new ones up all the time. I'm currently searching for a kimono to go over them.

I find them adorable : ) but impractical : (
Over the years, with all the turning & flipping I do in bed all night, I've evolved into wearing tanks and boy-short undies. Anything else, even short sleeved T's or boxers, get bunched-up and twisted.
Oh how I wish I could lay in one place all night...I'd be wearing the cutest nighties....but it always gets too uncomfortable. I think they're best for romping, not for snoozing.

I have a collection of old slips I found in my grandmother's closet that I lounge around in. Sometimes I layer them for day, but I like the feeling of dressing up for bed, too. Plus, they're comfortable.

I sleep in little white cotton nighties in the summer - so comfortable and cute, and they look so great. You feel really good going to bed.

And then in winter... I sleep in mens stripey pajamas.

Best of both worlds!

I know it's the third season...but I just re-watched season 1 the past few weeks. I'm sure I'll do the same with season 2 pre-season 4. xAbby

I love nighties!! The short ones work in a pinch, but I prefer the full length ones with full sweep skirts. I have a ton that I wear when it isn't freezing out.

I just watched the the first season too! (And most of the second season)

All I think about when I see Don and Betty in their pajamas is how constricting they look, though. I feel they are more suited to shooting at neighors' pigeons than for sleeping.

I have an awesome pegnoir set in baby blue - vintage 1950's that I am waiting to wear. I do sometimes sleep in vintage slips however. I don't think I would sleep in my pegnoir set but it would be fun to cook dinner in and lunge around in with someone pegnoir- worthy.

I grew up in the 60s and that is what my Mom wore (and did into the 90s when she passed away. The little robes that went over them are called "dusters", don't ask me why. Me, I feel sexier in a slouchy t shirt and undies.

I'm a robe girl. I have a couple silky short night dresses, but I work at home and when the Fed-ex guy comes a knockin'...
So! There's the VS short silky robe, the long flowery robe, the kimono style, the H&M peach and black... you get the picture. But agree with #5--in winter it's the full flannel men's jammie 'cuz I'm freezing!

I've been dressing for bed for years! Now maybe all of my friends (and even boyfriends!) won't make fun of me and call me an old lady...Also, keep an eye out for Juicy's sleepwear line in the coming seasons...very cute and flirty...lots of bows, ruffles and all that is Juicy. :)
