“That studio had no heating and sometimes no light in the middle of winter, with us piling on jackets, hats and gloves and straining our eyes while stitching toiles by candlelight,” Anna Heinrup recalled. She was not describing the working conditions of Dickensian London, but her last job as an unpaid design intern for an up-and-coming London designer.” –A scary New York Time‘s story on the perils of fashion, particularly design, internships.

I’ve done a few internships in NY and the only designer that genuine cared for their interns was Tracy Reese. She made sure all the interns got paid for their transportation and lunch. Truly a lady. And then some who just used their interns and then towards the end devalue your efforts by accusing you being as unfit for society. Yea Im talking about you Club Monaco; major asswipes in that company. I’m still vexed over the fact that they told me not to come back for my last day because they found some nsfw sketches I drew, on my break—these bitches look at nude pics of runway girls all the time, and one the designers even changes her clothes in front of everybody, tits and all. Like comme on. If you’re gonna dismiss an indentured servant can you at least be courteous about it. Not cool.

Don’t feel bad #3, CM caught Thom Browne taking a little too much off the hem on their pants and immediately fired him.
Anyway, no one should ever have to work or wear Club Monaco.

Thanks #6, most people that work in CM are stuck-up for nothing. All they do there is steal other people’s idea and interpret it as theirs. But you best believe I gave them a piece of my mind and said exactly how I felt and the HR director was complete in agreement.
#4, the sketch they had a fit over was actually a picture I printed and drew over from the Victor and Rolf resort 10 collection. I vaguely remember how it looks but I think I drew stars on the nipple area and panties on the girl and she had on a huge pocket book that resembled lv monograms. and behind her was a canal st sign. I was thinking of conterfeits that day. Needless to say they weren’t fond of it. So much for open-mindedness in fashion.

Honestly it really sucks when you have been at an internship for several months and people still don’t know who you are or show any appreciation for what you do.
It would also be nice if some of them could pay some sort of lump sum or at least some money to cover lunch.
