New Blood at Ungaro

lindsay_lohan_at_fashion_week_2.jpgSo that Lindsay Lohan situation at Ungaro that we talked about a while back? Yeah, it’s happening.

Late last night, WWD reported that Ungaro had name Ms. Lohan the “artistic advisor” to the house. They’ve also got a new designer, Spaniard Estella Archs, who has shown her own collections in Paris as of late, though we’re not super familiar with them. She’s a Central Saint Martins grad who apparently has Nina Ricci, Cacharel, Hussein Chalayan, Emilio Pucci and Prada on her resumé. But according to the article Lindsay “kind of oversees everything [Archs] does, while working with her. Different generations have different ideas.” This is sounding more press hungry by the minute. Oy.

Ungaro CEO Mounir Moufarrige told WWD, “Everything we’re going to get is going to be a plus. I think the noise level around Lindsay will be very, very big.” Um, duh. If Lindsay goes to the bathroom, it’s a story. But is tabloid press going to spark sales at the house? We’re not convinced. But obviously Mourfarrige is. He’s quite the smitten kitten about LL throughout the lengthy WWD piece, lauding the idea that she changes clothes five times a day and calling her closet a “mini-department store.”

It’s not that we think that Lindsay isn’t incredibly interested in fashion. She obviously is. But the leap from leggings and fake tans to a venerable French fashion house, albeit one that isn’t the most relevant right now, is still a huge leap. And her new boss/colleague/we don’t what, is already saying, “Have you ever met two women who agree completely about fashion?”

Perhaps not. But we have seen them able to create some gorgeous stuff. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what these two bring to the runway in Paris. We’re not holding our breath.

I am really curious how this all came about - especially with Lindsay. I'm not bashing her fashion sense, I actually think it's quite interesting but she has NOTHING to do with Ungaro. I would never put the two together. I guess this means more trips to Paris? Lucky firecrotch.

I also am interested in how L-Lo seemingly walked into such a fantastic position at this company. I, again, am not bashing her because I personally love Lindsay like no other. Kicked someone out of my apartment a few years ago because he tried to make a joke against her [yes, I was drunk...]. I'm just waiting to see some results from this partnership!

this is dumb. i really liked cortazar's designs for ungaro, and i thought he was just starting to hit his stride with the last collection. i really thought it was beautiful-- like a wearable balmain, it channeled the history of the house and all the 80s references but the individual pieces still seemed wearable. as with so many other designers, this seems to be another case of execs not wanting to put the time and money into really developing good creative power at a house.

Cortazar was awful - I'm glad he's gone. But in all honesty, I really don't care much about Ungaro.

Oversee? As in attach her name to stuff other people create while she drums up publicity? Nothing against the girl but how did this happen? Ungaro is a big jump from producing a line of leggings.

I'm just completely disgusted by this. As if we haven't had enough of Lindsay Lohan and her uselessness.
