Alex Wang's Jock Streak

anna selezneva, _, Alex Wang, Natasha Poly.jpgAlexander Wang’s SS10 collection, the one he said could be summed up with ‘perv,’ couldn’t have been less pervy than everything he’s done before.

This one had color - red and white stripes, khaki green - tinsel, capes and letterman sweaters. His all star models including Frankie Rayder and Karlie Kloss (Erin Wasson sat front row instead) stomped down the cement runway at Pier 94 like a football team taking the field, only in animal print wedges instead of cleats.

Speaking of the venue, it’s massive size was surprising considering how many it girls Wang refused to allow into his show. In their place sat Rachel McAdams, next to a bored looking Anna Wintour, in a black and white bandage skirt and slouchy black tee. If Wang wants the Lindsay’s to stop loving his clothes in favor of the Rachel McAdams of Hollywood, we’d suggest fewer crop tops.

On the way out we heard, “Best yet,” and “Who knew he had that in him?”

Seriously, honestly, for real? I was bored! I actually WANTED to really like it cause I've just become a fan of his but alas I did not. :(

I agree...watching the models come down the runway I couldn't help but think "THIS is what he's come up with?" I think it was a little too kitschy with the American football theme, and at many points non-cohesive. I think if he stayed away from those stripes and camo-toned colors it could have been a little bit better.

yeah, who knew he had it in him to 'design' such a spectacularly shitty collection. it was trash from start to finish, honestly. i haven't liked his work since fw08.

pure hype. if the clothes fit that bad on the models, imagine how they will fit on the average body?

can we just ship wang and wasson and all their clones off to a deserted island? and get back to real desiging, not vanity projects and stuff i could find in any thrift store?

guest #4, i agree like whoa. it angers and pains me that wonderful designers like olivier theyskens, alessandra fachinetti and LACROIX are out of jobs, whereas alexander and erin have made fortunes out of sending models onto the runway wearing whatever they wore to bed the previous night.

I liked it. After the past few seasons, I really wanted to see him do something different. And while, I can say that at first glance I was puzzled, I came around to it. I love that he found a new way to do all-American. It is definitely a change for Wang, and I found it to be a refreshing collection. I don't recall seeing anything aesthetically similar recently if ever!

I'm in FW zombie state, so I apologize if this comment is poorly writen!
