Quote of the Day

“This year, we have gone back all the way that we had advanced. I don’t see any black woman, or of any other race, in big advertising campaigns.” —Naomi Campbell on the industry’s continuing diversity issues.

Agreed. It's shameful.

its definitly not being dealt with enough. most designers and fashion media seems to be turning a blind eye towards the issue. Having a token black or asian girl/guy is not good enough

With the exception of Christy Turlington, of course.

It's disgraceful that designers haven't advanced themselves enough to include other races.

There token excuse is..."It's difficult to fit them."

They're making millions of dollars, and they can't hire people to alter the style to fit a curvier, but still SKINNY person? Or an Asian woman? Or a Latina? Or any woman with a hint of breasts and butt?

I understand the aesthetic designers are looking for, but it's found in many ethnicities.

I wonder if Naomi Campbell ever considered how many jobs she lost not because of her race but her erratic unpredictable behavior.

i agree with her totally. imagine how hard it is to cover fashion for a multicultural blog/audience? if i could get over my love for fashion (that won't happen), i'd not cover it at all. i don't know whatelse to say besides the industry lack of diversity sucks big time. they could probably make even more money if they were a bit more inclusive. (i guess i could go on and on).

No. 4 I didn't know that that's the excuse that they give; that's really interesting considering no one mind's accommodating Lara's boobs. This is one area where Naomi is totally right.

I'm very grateful to Naomi for saying this. Has anyone read her entire statement? It's very true, and very sad.

@ comment #5:

WTF does that have to do with the lack of minorities in major campaigns? Stop being stupid, okay?

I'd be more inclined to purchase something by a face more similar to mine. It's something that designers should into consideration if they wish to boost sales.

I agree with 9. That was a stupid comment 5. Naomi's attitude may be awful but that doesn't mean every minority model's is. Don't dilute this debate with bullshit.

so true. i`d love to see more latin (not brazilian) or middle eastern women in high fashion ad campaigns and runways.

we have tons of miss universe`s, so of course there are tons of models on the streets. and as far as middle easter women you can easily find the high fashion version of kim kardasian anywhere.

Maybe that is why adverts are dominated by Caucasians; they are the majority population meaning they control the majority of the purchasing power and designers appeal to them foremost.
