Adventures in Copyright: He’s Done It Again

steve madden isabel marant rider.jpgRemember when Tommy Ton threw the whole world into fits of jealousy after shooting French Vogue’s Emmanuelle Alt wearing Isabel Marant’s studded booties mere hours after last season’s show?

Because we do - and despite their sold out status, we’re still lusting for them. So is Steve Madden. Surprised? Just another opportunity for him to cash in on someone else’s great design.

Steve’s Blitzi booties are an obvious knock-off of Isabel’s Rider. He’s managed black suede, a rounded toe and the low slung black leather strap underneath the studded cuff. His studs are silver, which is spot on, but he got lazy in the back and replaced Marant’s black suede cone heel with a chunk of square brown synthetic wood - they’re still almost $200.

Save your pennies for when Marant opens that Soho store early next year.

oh boy, something more to consider: the isabel marant people are so insane about keeping their image a certain way that they won't even allow their clothes to be photographed for internet shopping sites (for fear that the way the clothes are styled will damage the image they're going for), so yeah, steve madden better be shaking in those cheap ass booties right about now.

barney's co-op knocked off that boot too. it's not on their website, but in the co-op denim catalogue they have a model wearing that boot and it's credited to their house label.

there's a DEAD ON knockoff in intermix as well- for $250. i thought it was the marant boot, even when i had it in my hand. it's extremely well-made. can't remember the brand, not something i had recognized. they don't have it on their website, either. i assume for these sorts of reasons.

Isabel Marant is my #1 favorite for S/S 2010.

Wait, didn't Steve Madden *just* get into trouble with McQueen?

Hey Steve Madden, how about using the millions of dollars you've set aside for lawsuits to buy health insurance for families in need??

Also guilty, some brand called Rose Gold: http://www.singer22.com/studbooties.html

And Singer 22 for acting like Sienna Miller is wearing the knock off version.
