Fashion Is Fun

Bravo Tries Getting Back Into Fashion

Okay, so Bravo lost Project Runway, which is now basically boring us to tears over on Lifetime. Then came The Fashion Show, which I couldn’t bring myself to watch after two episodes. (That’s saying something because I watch inordinate amounts of TV and will fully admit to getting sucked into yet another Real World/Road Rules Challenge.)

On December 2nd, the network that stills gives us joy with RZP, Top Chef, and the Housewives will debut Launch My Line. Now until I watched all these new videos they just put up, I was a tad confused about the premise. In case you were too, here’s the deal: unknown-to-most designers get paired up with successful professionals (in the above video) in other fields to form teams of two that compete to have their own fashion line produced. Um, okay.

While self-proclaimed “dandy of New York” Patrick McDonald and journalist Merle Ginsberg kinda make sense. the rest are a total mixed bag. Marketing exec and Harvard MBA, Marilyn Crawford seems like she could be a hoot and obviously has a major branding background. But I’m still questioning what exactly someone like DJ Eric Cubeechee is going to bring to the table. Also, my money’s on Lisa Kline for quirkiest judge.

So is Bravo scraping the bottom of the fashion barrel? Perhaps. I mean, this does feel like a bit of a stretch and we’re not sure we see a rabid fan base forming. But I’ll at least give it a couple episodes before I bail. What about you?

This is the show that Dean & Dan Caten of Dsquared2 are hosting... I'm SURE it'll be fab just because they're a riot.

I'll give it a chance b/c I really need to replace Project Runway. Seriously, if PR didn't have Tim Gunn they would be cancelled by now. And yes, The Fashion Show was painful, even my love of Fern Mallis couldn't keep me.

I agree with SocialStylist. I currently miss Project Runway on purpose for RHWOA. VERY disappointed when they got rid of Malvin and ... Ari.. was it? The show lost it's lust. Someone needs to come with something fresh for us who love Fashion.
