Clothes On Film

marc jacobs net a porter video.jpgA few month’s ago, Net-a-Porter finally ditched mannequins in favor of actual models, albeit headless ones, but now they’ve gone a step further and captured their girls on camera.

The ‘video’ option’s only available on a few items so far, like the Marc Jacobs skirt at left, an Anna Sui tunic and a DvF cocktail dress.

There’s not much to it, the girl walks out wearing the item and spins around a few times before walking off the white stage. You don’t see her head, which is slightly creepy, and I’m not sure it brings anything new to the item (though if ever a dress drapes particularly well, it might).

Does this fill a gaping hole in your online shopping experience? Is the movement of Marc’s sequins enough to make you click buy?

ASOS has done this for years, had video of their clothes on the runway. It is nice to see how the fabric moves, but it doesnt usually affect my decision to buy

maybe they use the same models as shopbop and they are trying to hide that "dead behind the eyes" face they all make.

...ugh! as a stylist for a very busy online shopping site i can't imagine having to do video clips as well. with so much happening all day every day, its hard enough to book models who can fit the clothes perfectly without pinning let alone have nice enough expressions for shot after shot after shot. cut us some slack! we are bringing you the goods!!

A gaping whole?

I think it can be helpful to see how clothes fit on a body that moves... sometimes how a dress looks when you are standing still is very different from how it looks when you actually move in it.
